It pales in comparison to the levels JM has actually taken. We’ve already seen a Trump presidency, do you think it was similar to JMs term?

No, because America isn't in nearly as bad of shape Argentina is and there's no way we'd see enough popular support for such sharp/drastic measures.

Correct however, the STATE worked on lowering 3 years ago, WHY the state?

Mine are higher now than in 2021.

So Trump ran on austerity. Got it.

No. His economic message is mixed and very confusing.

Milei is a classical economic purist and expert. Trump is an economic populist. They are the polar opposities.

Pay down debt?

How often does that happen?

I know this board likes to toss off to this Roman Polanski looking dude and I'm fine with that, but when it comes to money, when have you known a Government to use good fiscal judgement? Especially a Government like Argentina.

They're not gonna pay down jack shite. I'll believe that when I see it. That money will be spent, embezzled and used to pay off political favors. Government (any Government) can't help itself. Argentina is no different.

Argentina has a budget surplus, which means they have more money than they need to run the Government, and its doesn't matter how the Government came to have this surplus, whether it's from spending cuts or higher taxes. The excess money belongs to the Argentinian tax payers and it should be given back to them.

If Biden were leaving office with a budget surplus, we would all be losing our fricking shite, wanting our money back. I know I would.

That's the whole point of Milei

The Argentinian tax payers owe money.

It's already been said but you couldn't have made a more asinine post.

Take a step back from your preconceived notions for one second and think of the potential benefits and safeguards a surplus may offer a Gov't.

The thought process behind govt entities needing to exhaust all their resources in a given time frame is what leads to wasteful spending.

This is exactly how Democrats think. Exactly.

Democrats don't think "surplus"

There's nothing about this to be celebrated. Governments are not for profit institutions. If there's a budget surplus, it means Argentinian tax payers were over taxed and they should all be given a refund.

Now use the surplus to retire the debt of those who didn’t pay enough to fund the government.

That was easy.

Youre way too hung up on a one-year surplus, which will probably lead to less taxes in the future.

I dont even understand what youre trying to do here.

No clue, but I'll wait to shite my pants over it until I see where the money goes.

That seems reasonable, right?

Theoretically cutting an insignificant amount (that's already been walked back) is now "austerity"

If I recall the state used to surplus to give back to the counties to close the gap by lowered property tax revenues.

I'm not arguing your point or against you.

Your appraisal value is likely higher than 2021 thus your tax will be higher. The increase in value has a compounding effect over the years.

And the only "cuts", if any, will be to increases rather than budgets.

Trumps not an economic conservative, in the least. You know that. There will be no austerity.
