Most people never even see their paycheck

It would be fairly careless for corporate management to piss money away for several quarters, and without compensatory late quarter-filings to boot ..... Especially considering paycheck accounting was in place early on. Perhaps though, a laissez-faire approach is more widespread in US management than I appreciate.
I was thinking about it more in the context of fiscal year and not calendar year filers. I’m sure the majority trued up in a later Q but a number of corps actually like a little cushion even if it means an overpayment carryforward (which to your point probably shouldn’t be considered a refund). If the q estimates were materially off they could have also filed a 4466 prior to the actual CIT filing. Calendar years are a different story since the new rate was effective 1/31/18.
I’m not saying the OP’s point is valid. I suppose he is referring to the new rate moreso than actual refunds. I won’t derail further with my thoughts there.

Wrong
Real weekly earnings up 1.6% Feb 2018 to Feb 2019 when accounting for hours worked. The current inflation rate for the United States is 1.5% for the 12 months ended February 2019.
We'll know about March in a few days.

You are an idiot who shouldn’t speak.
We got less in tax returns because the government had to give us less of our own damn money than they have in the past because they took less.
They aren’t giving you free money, it’s what’s left of the money you were forcibly made to contribute.

“Taxpayers want a large refund.”
Every taxpayer can have as big a refund they want. Increase withholding and wait until tax season next year.
Sadly, this is typical. Dems tax the frick out of people for over a century. Trump gets folks more money in their paycheck, every week, and they bitch because their "refunds" (0% on a loan you made to the government all year payment would be too cumbersome) are smaller.
FFS...

Some people never accept their role in life. These are the whiners of life.

Is not equal to average taxes paid. But it is cute seeing Trump haters try and take advantage of people on yet another topic.

the headline would be more correct if it said "Americans don't understand how taxes work."
