The genocide you speak of was mostly tribal atrocities...native v native. The Indian wars east of the Mississippi began far before the Europeans arrived in North America and only ended with the Creek War and the Seminole War. The British, French, and Americans had Indian allies, and there was more than enough blame to share.

The Cherokees were not at war with anyone before the trail of tears. They were primarily farmers. People just wanted their land. It went to the Supreme Court. They weren’t the plains tribes. Learn your history.

Jackson protected the Louisiana Territory by winning the Battle of New Orleans, that was contested by the British for westward expansion. I realize he wasn't president during this time but he did push the idea of Manifest Destiny while in office of President, setting up westward expansion.

Andrew Jackson was the Trail of Tears president and he made a fortune opening up the Deep South to cotton plantations, which revived the American slave trade after it was on life support and not profitable (there were no resource curse crops in the south prior to cotton. But shite, to each their own!

Why do you mean by this besides some Middle School history textbook you're quoting from?

Weren't we still in conquest mode as a country? Hostiles had to go - Manifest Destiny brah.

He asked the question, best President not best human being? He didn't ask who was Jesus as a President.

How was that not good for the country by not letting tribes control where we could and could not go on this continent and frontiersmen live in fear.

Read the Captivity of the Oatman girls. Which became a problem - frontiersmen and their families being kidnapped and murdered.

Sucked for the Native indigenous hostiles...but they were never assimilating anyways; they wanted to fight to the death and loved to raid farms and families instead of facing the US military outright.

Why? He was probably our second strongest wartime president, maintained the Union, and was extremely sensitive to the war’s aftermath.

That's not exactly true...

The native nations were split over signing the leave agreements in 1935...they got tons of cash and had 2 years to take their nation to Indian country...
So some guys signed for the Whole tribes, took the money and ran...

2 years came and 10s of thousands that wanted to keep their tribal lands were forced off, after their leaders already sold their lands and rights to the US gov...

My family stuck it out in North Alabama...became "white", intermarried, migrated slowly west over 2 more generations

Jackson was president when the US started the worst recession(the Panic of 1837) until the Great Depression. The recession lasted 5 years. President Martin Van Buren was mainly blamed, but it started before he was in office.

In 1832 Jackson vetoed a bill to recharter the central banks. This help allow banks in the south and west to relax standards on lending. Then he signed a EO in 1836 that land in the West could only be bought by hard currency(Silver/Gold). This basically caused a run on the banks.

Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act(Trail of Tears). This act caused an unknown amount of deaths to many different tribes. This act was fought hard against by Davy Crockett.

At the time Crockett was a congressman from Tennessee and had a lot of influence in DC and in the US. While in congress Crockett and Jackson disagreed/fought over many of Jacksons policies. When Crockett ran for re-election Jackson paid the newspapers to write stories about how Crockett was a drunk and cheated on his wife with whore’s. Crockett lost his re-election bid and family.

There are many more examples of Jackson making huge mistakes and being vindictive as president. Most people only remember him as a General and his military record not his presidential record.

Jackson was and is a very overrated president.

If you call war genocide, than yes. The Indians kept killing everyone traveling west. Andrew Jackson waged war for this reason, and also adopted an Indian boy.

The uninformed always act like Jackson had no reason to kill Indians, which is blatant ignorance. Think it’s a coincidence more Americans started heading west after he won that war?
