The sad reality is student debt "crisis" at 4-8% is the only thing keeping Millenials and Gen Z from a credit card crisis at 16-25%. No way the blank slate offered by $10k or $50k in potential relief would last.
If the government is staying in the student loan business, Step 0 before one cent of relief should be shutting down universities' ability to increase tuition drastically beyond inflation. No more blank checks. If that isn't fixed before anything else is considered then we'll have this as an evergreen campaign issue with increasing cancellation denominations.

Honestly I can’t stand Biden but him putting that liberal freak in her place was awesome. Good for him
Imagine thinking you are owed 50k in loan forgiveness so much that you get to ask the president a question and use it to demand it of the president

First, let’s cancel the student loan program. It’s an obvious failure of a program.
Once that’s done, THEN we can discuss cancelling some amount of debt. But I still won’t agree.

If we suppose, just for the sake of argument, that a large amount of student loan debt should be forgiven (>$50,000 for all students, regardless of major or job type), it necessarily follows that the federal subsidized student loan program should be cancelled.
If you’re for massive student loan forgiveness, you’ve basically admitted that 18-22 year olds are too stupid and irresponsible to be given federally subsidized loans.

To be fair, he is not the president.

Good grief.
The Dems WILL NOT lose either house. They will increase their lead in both.
FFS. They just rigged a POTUS election with everyone watching.
You don’t think they will steal some seats in a mid term election when half the country (on both sides) historically doesn’t pay attention?

Regardless of your fears about the 2022 midterms, historically, the first midterm of a new president usually has pretty high turnout. Lots of voters having buyer’s remorse regarding the White House.

Millennials have more money saved at age 25 than any other generation. I don’t agree by having them in debt for 4-8% interest is saving them from racking up 20% credit card debt.

Bush (43) got by without an initial midterm referendum. In 2002, the GOP actually gained back the Senate after a defection that occurred in 2001 gave the Dems brief control. But Bush was riding the momentum of a popular war, and Americans love war.
It finally caught up with in the 2006 midterms.

It’s laughable if you thought the Occupant of the United States would do anything with student debt. His handlers told him he needed the millennial vote and made him say that. Not even being discussed with any sincerity.

If you paid it off in the last year then you’re an idiot

What gives you the right for even taking a 10K reduction? You should get nothing and like it.

Nor should he. You knew what you were siging up for.
Student loan and that "business" is a huge racketeering job. There should be no interest on student loans, moving forward. You cannot get rid of it except by paying for it. I do support a reduced interest rate moving forward for active loans.
Invest in yourself. Thats what we do as humans, as companies, why not as a country, our country, The United States of America. You choose to take a job out of country, now you get some interest charges.
Invest in yourself, whomever or whatever that may be.

And yet it will be a top 3 2024 campaign promise. (From Kamala).

Good, something we can finally agree on.
