Why are they raising prices at all? I thought the country, not the consumer, pays the tariffs . That’s what Trump said.

What is the tariff Germany is charging the U.S. to sell cars in Germany? Dumbass.

If this is the case then the tariff did nothing to help domestic manufacturers. You guys have never quite put that together.

Tell us all how long the tariffs have been in place for you to already make this determination

How long do you think BMW can lose 15% or so on each car they sell here?

Last year their margins were under 7%.

How many Americans are driving around in US manufactured Honda's, Nissan's, and Toyota 's compared to German manufactured BMW's ? Biff and Muffy don't care about Tariffs on their BMW. They're wealthy enough to absorb the cost.

This. The entire eurozone economy at this point is just saying “I don’t need your advice!!” while sinking into quicksand

How do you think tariffs protect domestic industries? You just light a candle and say "tariff tariff tariff"?

They will either raise prices, which will help domestic competition, or they'll eat the tariff, which won't result in higher prices for the consumer but it also does jack shite to help the domestics. Every single outcome is one of those two or a combination thereof. They pass it on to the consumer, they pass some of it on, they pass none of it on.

If they pass it on, prices go up. The domestics are happy but the consumer isn't. If they eat them all that happened is the federal government collected a little more revenue. Domestic companies got zero help in that case.

I’ve never had even the slightest desire to drive a BMW.

Are there additional tweets with price sheets beyond the 2-Series? I'm more of a 5-Series guy but I'm several years from replacing the one I've got.

I'm guessing these tariffs will be shitcanned by the Summer of 2026 tbh.

Probably not long, which is why the prices will probably creep up. I'm guessing they can do math as well as we can.

Then that invalidates your position, that it did nothing for the domestic manufacturers, doesn't it.

My guess is they'll steadily increase the prices over a few years because they also probably have the assumption that I do about this becoming politically untenable for the GOP and they're canned by Summer 2026.

No, read what I said. I said IF they don't increase prices then the tariff has done nothing for domestic manufacturers.

It’s not just BMW and foreign vehicles. It will also impact parts and vehicles made domestically that use parts not made in the US.

How do actual sales prices compare to MSRP? We all know demand drives prices, not MSRP. If BMWs usually sell for 5% below MSRP and MSRP increases by 4%, will dealerships sell them at 9% below MSRP now if the demand isn't there for the price increase?

It wouldn’t be the first time. His Cares Act kicked off inflation.

That's a good point. I'm guessing they will drift back down toward pre-tariff pricing, when they have trouble moving them off the lot.

I did read what you said.

Unlike you, I prefer to look at the longer term while you are looking at the prices BMW is doing out of the gate and nothing else.

BMW cannot subsidize it's US car sales to the tune of 15% for any length of time.
