I have read on powder metallurgy for steels, it seems like it's not done in the USA.

But to note, passively reading is not the same as being in the field.

That's an important point. That powder is already highly refined through several processes, before it is usable.
Same thing for raw materials at a steel mill. You can't just dig iron ore out of the ground and put it in a furnace.
There's a lot of processing involved, and every step is more costly.

Sorry, but you're trying to convince anyone that the UK can't run on its own after having done so for centuries, then I know I'm speaking with someone who doesn't WANT to be independent.

This is not true.

If we ever run out of scrap steel then you have a point, but thats never going to happen.
