No, we are also users of what we import. We import to keep the multinational cement companies honest and we also sell to make a profit.

Why are you importing from China anyway? Are the transatlantic options that much more expensive?
Can’t imagine paying for pacific and canal transit times are fun.

We are not importing from China at present. The only real options "pre" tariff were Turkey, Vietnam, and Eqypt (not so much). Cement from China was very good when they had capacity to export.
Cement cost from Turkey : $60/MT
Ocean Freight from Turkey; $ 20/MT
Unloading lower Miss River: $5/MT
Landing cost in barges: $85/MT
Cement is over $140 MT now.

What product is it that "cannot be made in the US" by US citizens?
Is it produced by the equivalent of slave labor to hold down the cost?
Is it sold in the USA by one of our enemies to make us dependent on foreign sources - to become a critical deficit if/when a conflict with them becomes a reality?

FFS. You had to ruin a perfectly good thread with this bullshite

You work for a foreign owned company, importing foreign made material...only one material it seems and mostly from one country...the majority of which you sell instead of produce things with. Is that about it?
If your company can't do it one will be along shortly to take your place. Maybe you can get a job with them.

I haven’t heard a thing about tariffs since a year ago. What is the big deal that’s going on right now?

My company has been decimated by Tariffs and it's not a product that can be made in the U.S. if we tried. It is beyond our material capacity and the ownership of most of the production is already foreign owned.
It's a grift.

In 2023, the United States produced approximately 88 million tons of Portland cement across 99 plants in 34 states and Puerto Rico. The top producing states, which account for roughly 43% of total US production, are Texas, Missouri, California, and Florida, followed closely by Alabama, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
That's from Wiki, you liberal nutjob! Where's Kansas nut-job? Grow some friggin corn or wheat already! Cry some more.

About 50 years ago the largest portland cement production facility in the world was just west of I35 between San Marcos and San Antonio. That facility is still operational.
I have a 2005 Tundra. Want me to pick up a few bags for you?
I tell you who might have a beef about tariffs, Saudi Arabia. In the 70s and 80s they were the largest importer of sand in the world. They might start a tariff on sand. Probably still are, or whoever is doing the most building in that area.

Don't know why you're laughing. Tariffs are fools' gold in this economy.
