They benefit tremendously being in an alliance with the worlds super power.

Tell me how. Denmark’s military spending wouldn’t be different if they were on their lonesome. They don’t have any direct external threat anywhere. Do they “benefit” in that if apocalyptic WW3 broke out, they’d be on our side? Sure. But it’s not a factor in any reasonable view of the situation

quote:

They have no threats simply because if someone messes with them they have 31 other counties coming to help.

No, they have no current threats because of geography.

quote:

They currently do not meet the 2% GDP spending requirement for NATO, and are subsidized by the US.

What is the amount of the subsidy?

quote:

They also benefit from being allowed our military weaponry and technology, the f35 for example.

That they purchase. With money, paid to the United States.

quote:

You’re acting like Denmarks military can handle itself, be just as good as the United States, or doesn’t need us for long term survival.

Their military is just fine for wandering around their territorial waters, escorting Russian planes through their airspace, etc. A nation that size will never be able to defend itself against any great power. Not sure what you’re expecting them to have that they don’t have.

quote:

We could leave NATO today and we would be fine, very few if any of the 31 other members could say the same.

Right. Our defense costs would just get more expensive, since we’d have the same infrastructure in place and just be paying individual nations for the privilege instead of cooperating on common assets through the alliance.

We would have the bases and assets we have in Europe whether NATO existed or not. We like to use them and use them often.

You don’t think they wouldn’t have an increase in defense spending if they didn’t have NATO?

quote:

Because of NATO. Refer to why Ukraine desperately wants in. There wouldn’t be a war in Ukraine right now if they had NATO membership.

No, they have no current threats because of geography.

Everyone in the world has threats including us, that’s why we spend a trillion dollars in defense

quote:

They are privileged to be a country to be allowed to purchase.

quote:

Right. Our defense costs would just get more expensive,

Lma fricking o. Denmarks won’t but ours will.

Not TRUE!

How many Americans did Hitler kill prior to us entering the war.
Was the USA being threatened by Hitler or was Russia (USSR) being threatened?

We baled out, came to the Aid, of Russia and Europe. Then they killed Patton before he could tell about it.

I'm more inclined to think we and the Brits killed Patton, because he and Churchill wanted to press on through to Moscow. The suits in power, however, chose otherwise.

I don’t. In fact, I think they’d spend less without the prospect of having to contribute to NATO ops. Same goes for most of the smaller member states.

Denmark has no geographical threat. Ukraine is a horrible comparison. Russia isn’t going to randomly decide to annex Jutland.

Denmark doesn’t use foreign infrastructure. We do. Denmark doesn’t need a force capable of doing anything but policing its own territory and airspace. We do.

They were already at war when we got in. The USSR only did what they did in the east because of the almost incomprehensible amount of supplies and materiel we sent to them. They should have put up pictures of the Ford logo instead of Stalin in Red Square.

No one is invading Greenland….with the exceptions of Russia or China.

The same Russia who couldn't maintain supply lines to Kyiv and had mile long columns because things were running out of fuel? The one who's only aircraft carrier is constantly in the maintenance yard?

The same China who's had no modern war experience and hasn't able to project power outside of the South China Sea?

Neither of those countries would be able to support any kind of force and prevent that force from being bombed by the numerous Nato countries surrounding it.

If you think that Russia or China can actually invade Greenland then you clearly have no critical thinking ability and just go with whatever Trump says.

Denmark answered the call of its ally after 9/11 and deployed thousands of troops to Afghanistan (Iraq, too, for that matter).

Denmark lost more soldiers per capita in defense of America than any other NATO country (aside from the U.S.).

Until the gen x era ends this type of rhetoric will fall on deaf ears.

We had grandparents that fought actual nazis in WW2. Know about the sacrifice laid down by American men for a country that was rolled over in a matter of days by Germany.

Let’s leave it up to the people of Greenland. They can vote to join us. If it’s successful they each get a million dollars. We buy the country for 58 billion. They become citizens of the greatest country the world has ever know and we start sinking Russian nuclear submarines that are under the ice caps. Everyone wins. Us, them, NATO. Everyone except the leftist terrorists in the Democratic Party

Cool. They aren’t friends with us.

They have been freeloading for decades, with no plan to stop.

Perhaps you are good with freeloading.

Don’t you work for the federal government?

Yes?
