We also haven’t sold them any submarines
We just announced our intention to enter into talks to set the terms to do so

So, it's potentially an even shittier situation from a diplomatic standpoint?

I don’t doubt that, but they can’t supersede geography. Until and unless they can project power in the South China Sea as well as Australia can host us to be able to do so, they’re going to lose this one.
I am not sure that geography of the providing nation has anything to do with it. France was not willing to share its nuclear sub technology, and the US/UK are. Australia decided that it needed subs that could remain undetected on station for longer periods of time, and so the US/UK made that choice easy for them.
The proximity of the US to China vs. France was not a factor.
Australia's proximity to China drove the deal generally, regardless of which subs they ended up choosing.

Losing a contract is NOT a reason to recall an ambassador
Perhaps it wasn't the reason, or wasn't the only reason.
France has stepped up in the War on Terror, while the USA literally just handed the jihadi goatfrickers an entire country.
Seems there are likely many grey shades to this development...

They also aren't actually "recalling" them in the common sense of the phrase. They are pulling them back to Paris for consultation. Its not like they are closing their embassy. Like I said previously, its obligatory hand-wringing because they are butt-hurt about the economic impact.

What have we won since then? Iraq?
Has France even won colonial actions since then?
We won in places like Grenada and Kuwait post-WWII. Not big boys along the lines of Germany and Japan but we didn't get totally pantsed by Vietnam like France did at Dien Bien Phu due to shitty choice of battlefields.
Most of our post-WWII losses were a lack of strategic planning in what to do and what victory conditions were, not getting chased out militarily in Vietnam or giving up on Algeria which, at that time, was a province of France rather than a colony.
Losing Algeria would have been like Hawaii having an insurrection and then us letting them secede.

That’s a shame. You had a true gift for it.

Keep in mind that the UK and Australia were big players in the Russiagate hoax.

The US agreed to share the tech with the understanding that we will be placing planes and missiles in Australia.
Australia was happy to have a better product and access to the underlying technology.

Meh. Commercial litigation pays way better here unless you’re at less than a handful of firms.

The Great Paris Airlift upcoming.
Gotta get all US citizens out of Gaul before it’s too late.

I'm not saying we didn't get something out of it, just pointing out that Australia's shifting submarine needs and our willingness to share the tech was the driving factor, not geography re: the US v. France's ability to project power in the SCS.

I can see that being the case in a big city. You billing in 6-minute increments?

Biden has alienated our two oldest allies

Austrailia is too cucked to form any sort of alliance with.
This was what worried me.
The Aussies are being very draconian with their citizens because of the Fauci Flu.
Clearly the Biden "Administration" has no qualms allying itself with the totalitarians Down Under.
The Auzzies have put their freedoms on the barby next to the shrimps.

I thought that would be the case. They have programs now where you just hit a clock for each piece of work and stop when you’re done. Easy as cake.
I had to bill by notepad as a law clerk at a BR firm and it was hell.

I just figured there was probably a way to accomplish whatever we wanted without publicly agitating one of our longstanding allies, but I'm sure you're right and this was another shining example of Biden's foreign policy expertise that I'm likely misunderstanding.
