Yes, I think that's the case with many 'generations.' The span is so wide.

Yes, as did this article. Did you miss the 'subtle' in my subject line on purpose?

Have you exhausted your lectures on statistical sample sizes?

This isn't the first I'm hearing about a more conservative Generation Z. There have been studies done over the past year or two showing just how conservative these kids are. And the results are that they are more conservative than any generation we have seen since World War II.

Political opinions are generally formed in high school. Those beliefs are re-confirmed in college because you tend to surround yourselves with those kind of people.

For instance, when I got to college, I immediately inquired about the College Republicans as well as the College Libertarians.

My 'personal' sample size is under 10, but you're right on the money and that's exactly what I've observed. Most of these kids are focusing on applying to colleges that have a more conservative campus (hard to find, unfortunately) and still have viable College Republicans or College Libertarians clubs. And I live in a pretty a rabid regressive area of the country.

I can understand not caring for the politics of millenials but to talk about them self-destructing is laughable. You realize millenials are starting to come into power and drive large companies at this point right? Not every millenial is protesting in the streets. Some of us are educated and are in a better place than our parents at this point in our lives.

Thanks for the article about prom dresses, though. Good stuff would read again.

High school graduates generally feel the same as their parents politically. Once they get to college they begin to learn about other perspectives.

Nate Silver found a correlation between the success/failure of presidents and the political orientation of people who came of age under that president.

O was a failure and thus people coming of age now will be slightly more conservative. Millennials got their image of the GOP from W (a failure) and the Democrats from Clinton (peace and prosperity). People currently in their late 40s came of age under Carter (failure) and Reagan (peace and prosperity) and are a more Republican cohort.

Silver's model was oversimplified as it used the Presidential approval rating as the measure of success/failure, but there was still a correlation. Obama has a higher approval rating in polls than in reality; people say they like him while their voting behavior says the opposite.
