I definitely think he’s saying bullshite to get attention but the guy has a PhD from MIT and studies the immune system. That’s going to turn heads.

Something killing at a rate of 1 in 250 is not enough of a threat to do all this because we would be doing all this all the time and society would collapse.

Buddy of mine is a nurse...he told me he could go to NYC right now drop of a hat and they would pay him 8k/week indefinitely. I think he said they would pay for housing as well.
They would probably put him on the front lines of this mess though. No chance I would do it.

Which one do you want to meet me at? West Jeff's emergency room was a shite show 9 months ago when I had to go there. I heard the VA is really nice, and I probably need to actually get some stuff done there. Nurses seemed cute at Oschner Baptist when I had to go there a few years ago. Which one.
ETA: To be honest, I was pretty bored this weekend, volunteering at the overcrowded hospitals or funeral pyres, sounds like the right thing to do.

It’s not necessarily political purposes. Politicians don’t know anything about viruses so they lean on the opinion of the virologists. The virologists are excited about the possibility of a devastating virus because it gives them a sense of importance. It’s just human nature and it’s not done out of malice.
It’s the equivalent of the weather man standing in the deepest puddle he can find in a stance like he could be blown away at any moment. The difference is that all humans can experience the weather first hand and say “this guy is being a sensationalist”. They aren’t able to do that with a virus because the average person has no knowledge of virology. They will believe what they are told until they see the virus first hand. Then their opinion will be based of their experience or a close friend/family member’s experience with the virus. If it doesn’t put them on their deathbed then people will go back to not caring.
