As with almost everything the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the extremes of “we are gonna die if we go back to work “ vs the virus is a hoax of many on this board. Shutdown did help slow things imo at the same time it’s not going to eliminate it and this can’t be life until a vaccine particularly in rural areas that aren’t getting swamped

i think the shutdown has been super expensive but has helped buy some time. but the focus was on HCP capacity and now that we have more information, we know that HCP isn't nearly the worry of mid-March 2019.

changing the goalposts/focus midstream is the big cognitive dissonance. now people who are pro-shutdown are pretending like HCP capacity wasn't the primary reason for the shutdown. they are making this argument while downplaying the good news coming out about COVID-19 not being as bad as we thought

Drug availability has to be part of any discussion regarding HCP. You need sedatives and paralytics to manage this; a million vents doesn’t help you if you can’t actually manage the patient.

The DEA has increased manufacturing quotas for the controlled substances needed. My institution gives us a “days till empty” stat to give us time to make a contingency plan. Hopefully manufacturing will catch up soon.

What message are they trying to convey?

Are they saying that Trump, Businessmen, and Evangelicals are unfamiliar with the saying, "Work smarter not harder?" Because they could just let gravity do the work for them.

Are they saying that the work of nurses, doctors, vaccine researchers, virologists, and scientists is as futile and pointless as Sisyphus' endeavor?

And why are vaccine researchers listed when they obviously fall under one of the categories of virologist, scientist, or doctor? It seems as pointless as making a graphic that includes tall people, people over 6'6", and basketball players. And why are they just standing there and not helping push the covid ball?

Where do the 17 million people that lost their job fall on the graphic?

Why is the Trump line pointing to someone with black hair instead of a glorious mane of blonde?

Why do I overanalyze stupid memes?

I don't think we'll ever have the answers.

I agree. That's why a gradual phase-in as Trump proposed is wise. You can't just open up the world again because too many people are stupid. But at the very least small businesses should be allowed to reopen with guidelines/restrictions.

So I see I'm getting downvotes here. I was thinking about the highly impacted places like NYC and NJ when I posted this. Surely you all don't think just reopening EVERYTHING tomorrow with no recommendations or requirements would be a good thing do you? Maybe in rural areas where there are few cases. But if I'm in NY or NJ I do not want to be in a crowded stadium, theater, or store tomorrow unless people are wearing masks and there are hand sanitizer pumps all over the place. Otherwise th spike will happen all over again....I think it would be smarter to reopen businesses etc but still limit huge gatherings

The problem we all live with?!?

Bull crap! The only thing I'm living with is the overeaction to a problem that is a problem in a few concentrated population centers.

In a two county area of about 250,000 people, we have barely 150 confirmed cases and 4 deaths. Hospitals here probably treat more snake bites. Yawn.

100% FALSE!!!

Isolation does nothing but slow the spread.

When the shutdown started, they wanted to flatten the curve, not "stop the virus".

Well, most of the country has flattened the curve.

It is time to go back to work with the elderly and those that are higher risk staying home.

The rest of us can only over come this by either 1) being exposed to the disease, or 2) getting vaccinated.

A vaccination will not be here for a year and probably more like 18 months.

If we sit indoors for that long, their won't be anything to go back to!!

Open up in areas that achieved the goal of flattening the curve and not overwhelming hospitals.

First thread in a long time where I've read the entire thing before I posted.

Thanks, SFP!

First off, the media should be in the group with the doomers.

Second, anyone who thinks this meme is "genius" needs help.

Absolutely and I think had there not been a shutdown in *a few* places like New York City, New Orleans we would have hit some doomsday level stuff. I mean while they weren’t full there were *some* patients in those temporary hospitals. All those places had actual hospitals who refashioned/repurposed wards to increase adult and icu capacity. Anytime that happens to me that is over capacity.

That time seems to have passed and like you said there’s no need to change the game now. When that happens they are being intentionally dishonest

and now, in Nola, we have a $100M + "field hospital" that was essentially not used

that is because the doomcasters don't want to be wrong

and the anti-Trump rhetoric was doomcasting, so they can't let him have a victory

Laughably wrong but typical for you.

That struggle is very real and what this meme attempts to communicate

There is no perfect solution.

That meme is just ignorance-based horseshite, just like the ones about social distancing and the second wave of the 1918 Flu.

That's an order of magnitude beyond yours Hank.

Wrong, it's because it's based on slanted bullshite that appeals to poorly educated simpletons like yourself. Simpletons that are also sharing this nonsense:

Nevermind that it was the peculiarities of trench warfare during WWI that resulted in the second wave of the deadlier strain of the virus.
