Geometric progression, cases doubling every 3 days.

What's 2 to the 10th power given our current case load?

it wouldn't be "at once"

it's been here for at least a month and our ERs aren't being overridden. the US is huge. it will take a while for it to cross the country

and i told you, allow hospitals to discriminate care in the ER and that will solve a LOT of problems

*ETA: and don't take that to say it won't be extreme. that would strain the frick out of healthcare in many urban areas. i'm not denying that. i'm saying you have no idea what kind of strain business is being put under currently (since you have no experience in it)

Disaster insurance

Business interruption insurance is definitely a thing. It can either be part of your regular business policy, or a stand-alone piece of coverage. The problem is going to be whether this event triggers it. You have a much stronger case if you were forced to close, but it’s still going to depend on the language of the policy

Hard work and a good drive, like how the right believes all small businesses succeed?

That is what built our business. As someone who watched my grandfather and father build my family's business, I know that hard work and drive is the foundation of making it what it has become. However, these are uncharted waters for small businesses in the U.S. That's why this question arose.

Libs only shop at places online like Amazon. They don’t care about small businesses.

If you're someone who owns a small business and you don't have anyone to pay you paid sick leave, and then you're forced to stop working for a long period, how do you survive?

I am GC, professional remodeling company, we're small...

but we are continuing to work...

we get draws from clients for certain phases, as long as we can continue to work, and make progress our cash flow should be just fine...

if clients tell us they don't want us in the home, or trades shut it down, we're then looking for a tough time

we have some money...decent size tax bill is due April 15 I don't look forward to...

hoping for the best

I am in the same boat. Work for us has been non stop, in part thanks to low interest rates. I just secured more work today. I’m in decent shape if I did not work for 2 months or so. However, I can’t say the same for some of my subs and part time help.

I am lucky enough that I have a lot of capital to get my businesses through hard times. My buildings are paid off which helps a lot.

My vendors are extending floor plans terms. As of today will be able to pay my employees for a few months if my businesses shut down.

I been on the other side and understand how it is to depend on your job and check. As far as myself I am also retired from a government position. That helps as I can take a pay cut.

I feel for some guys who are not as fortunate as myself that this will hurt them.

Twenty somethings sitting on mom's couch have no idea what a business owner goes through. I don't just worry about my family, I am responsible for these people I help them put food on the table, provide comfort for their children.I am part of their security blanket.

If I don't make money and my customers don't make money I can pay for a while but without continuous A/R collection that reserve goes down fast. If this goes to a 6 week shutdown, and the all clear is sounded, How long before my customers have the necessary income to justify my service/ products? That has kept me awake at night for the past 8 days. I can't just rely on the government to say all is well. Best case scenario if this thing accelerates and we go into virtual quarantine for a month, reality is I am looking at 2 - 2.5/3 months . Then I really start hurting.....most small businesses are in similar straits

Rely on the SBA......please!!!!!!

All I know is THANK GOD Trump is at the helm right now instead of Obama or Hillary. Could you imagine how much intentional damage they would create on top of all the other problems?

I share a small business with a partner. We are in a unique position to have increased demand for our services through this time. I dont know how long we would make it if we were on the other side and the revenue dried up.

We have doubled in size over the last two years. Included in that is a huge ramp up over the last 90 days. This outbreak and flu season is pushing us past our capabilities, which leads us to the need to expand rapidly, but knowing that this is short lived we have the decision to expand again or to make do with what we have.....if we hire for the increased demand and bring on the additional equipment we now will be a committed to growth that we dont know where it will come from when this subsides.

Trump has done no one any favors here. Death by a thousand razors seems to be his strategy

The solution is simple. If you cannot afford the required paid leave, before the paid leave goes into effect, fire all of your employees.
