I keep trying to have this discussion with my kids.
The starting incident isn’t necessarily the issue but how you handle it can be. Getting loud, indignant, and argumentative over something isn’t going to work out well even if you were in the right.

MFP funds (that’s what they’re called in Louisiana anyway), money from the state given based on a per student basis that normally would go to buying new text books, lab equipment, laptops, etc, to help cover payroll. They can’t afford to have many kids suspended long term or expelled if it comes around the time for the semester count.
I never knew it was semester-based payment system, I always thought it was an annual payment. #TIL

I could be wrong but I think the payment is annual, but that once a semester they want to see an actual hard count of the number of students on campus that day (usually done at first period so even kids that are tardy can effect the count) that factors into they payment for the next year. I'll have to ask my mom and confirm how it's done exactly, she's retired teacher/administrator.
I just remember specifically there were two times that school year where the principal was adamant that as many students as possible could be there and on time for the morning absentee report for numbers that they had to send to the state that were tied to MFP funds.

For those that don't know, there's a massive military base at Lawton. Lotta military appreciation there.
Sometimes, if you're driving through there west of town on the right day, you can see attack helicopters running drills in the distance to the north. Live fire w/ tracers, rockets, etc. It's pretty badass.

Stupid kids and their “First Amendment Rights.” They have no idea.
They should be applauded for fighting for their rights if the altercation started with State authority demanding allegiance.
