I want you to tell me how the slaves would have defined tyranny.

They would probably define tyranny as the leader of their tribe rounding them up and selling them to white men from America.

There's that part of it too.

Sure don't see much of that going on today, Jack.

History is being written as a narrative by people who are far from winners.

From their perspective, yes. Slavery as an institution goes back much further than the Confederacy. Abolition as a universal ideal doesn't go back much further than the 18th century in Western Civilization.

And yet they're winning.

I am. And such memorials exist both in Japan and in Germany.

I think this conversation is a bit over your head. You're hung up on the slavery part. It begins and ends right there with you. This thread is about digging a bit deeper than that.

Love seeing the excuses people come up with in response to this. The Confederacy fought to own slaves. Just own it.

That’s the problem. Ignore the parts that don’t fit the narrative.

Why do I care what Great Britain thinks about treason?

Treason against my own country by one of its citizens, particularly one who took an officer’s oath to that country, well, that’s just seems like a bigger deal to me.

Because that's the whole point of this thread topic. Like I told the other guy, if you are unable to take it past face value then maybe the conversation is over your head.

So crazy how we categorize the confederacy and the union. Slavery was a bi-product of the Civil War. In reality, there was no large difference in racial sentiment.

The Civil War was due to the inequities and repression created through direct exploitation from technologically advanced North. The North was sticking it to the South. I honestly think the North is just as responsible for slavery as the South.

I just want to know if you would consider the Confederacy to be tyrannical.

Of course. You could argue that any authority entity that forcefully enforces that authority is somewhat tyrannical.
