It's about all that stuff. But mostly it's about calming Israel down, because they actually do have nukes and are probably the most likely to use one on earth, and getting even more leverage on China by cutting another oil supply off if we like.
We have always been able to cut them off in a warlike fashion with a blockade but having it as leverage means you're a lot less likely to ever get to war with them. Same reason we went ahead and fixed Venezuela.
We've been in WW3 for a long time now, just most people haven't realized it. Frogs in pots and such.

What kind of "full scale" war do you invision?
The people want regime change and all that is required is the sufficient weakening of IRGC. Which is what the US military excels at. No nation-building needed. No "hearts and minds" bullshite.
Justification for regime change is pretty easy to come up with considering the proxy war Iran has waged on the US for 50 years.
