He sounds like someone that predicts the world will end in 12 years from climate change.
Sounds like a response from an ignoramus who'd rather comment relative to a political view about climate change rather than read the book and understand the issue. The book also covers AIDS, Ebola, influenza, hantavirus and other types of viruses that jump for the first time from animals to man. That's the key. Viruses that use another animal as a host that humans have no immunity for mutates and transfers into the human population. And China is a ripe source as cities with tens of millions shop in markets with all kinds of shite animals that the residents purchase, handle, kill and eat. That's kind of what happened here by the way. This is not a lab prepared virus.

Both falsehoods have been repeated here repeatedly.
"It's basically the flu" is not a falsehood. That much is absolutely certain. I don't know enough about the common cold to say if it's similar to that or not.

Two quick things before I head to work.
Testing needs to be way more widespread. Although it has is improved for the most vital cases, it is still very inadequate. Without knowing the numbers and locations of many of the actual cases, businesses, local/state govs, and individuals cannot take the appropriate measures at the right time. Knowledge of this would go a long way.
Second, there are still commercial flights coming in from the worst infection regions. And guess what, they get off the planes and are basically free to go wherever they want. This shite should have been stopped by now.

This isn't just like a cold, and obviously presents greater dangers. That said, stuff like this post makes it out to sound like the plague has hit and will wipe us out, which is also not true.
People should pay attention, be cautious, take basic preventative measures. It shouldn't be made out to be an apocalyptic event.

I'm not sure anyone is suggesting this is the apocalypse. The doctor is accurately describing the situation he is observing and warning that it could happen to other areas. Which part of that are you challenging? Do you think he's lying or do you think we are immune to experiencing the challenges Italy is struggling through?
