Ok his battalion was formed January 16th 2019. The motto says “not our victory”. He did say it’s the image of his units patch. I don’t know the difference between a battalion medal and a unit patch tbh

Correct. It's a pretty overt message to the autists and to anyone who wants to listen to the autists. Things are still on track.

Maybe a new unit incorporated the ghost, but the original "Ghost Army" was a WW II unit, and I don't think the patch was ever even official. Regs were a lot looser back then.
It's entirely possible that someone else is using the ghost/lightning image. I've never seen it on a uniform but if it's from 2019 maybe I wouldn't have. It's also possible that they have unofficial morale patches that they've adopted. You know when it was formed; if you know the actual unit it's probably easy enough to look up online.

Ok, so the actual patch they wear would be the red shield/arrowhead design. Patches aren't typically issued at the battalion level, so it looks like they took their division or regiment patch and made a battalion design around it using the ghost. Those aren't technically official because they're not worn so nobody cares if they go through an approval process. They may even have a painting of it on their building, it's just not a patch. I'm 99% sure that when your friend wears his uniform it's the red shield, not the surrounding imagery. It's just a misunderstanding of terms
