Rational people know that Jesus was likely in the dusky range - anywhere from a medium khaki to a dark tan.
But, the entire foundation upon which he built his ministry was Judaism.
The term Palestinian hadn't been invented yet. FFS we were over 600 years before Islam at that point.

Everything in the Old Testament prophecies speaking of the messiah and all of the New Testament verses speaking of Jesus as that messiah is directly tied to the Jews. Coming to any other conclusion is unhistoric and unbiblical nonsense.

quote:Nice supporting evidence.
Palestinians are Arabs, Arabs did not exist in the area that would become Palestine until 700 years after Jesus died.
The people now described as “Arabs” are not closely-related to one another and are comprised of four distinct genetic groups.
(1) The North Africans (Algerians, Tunisians, Moroccans, and Libyans), and the first Arabian Peninsula cluster (Saudis, Kuwaitis, and Yemenis),
(2) The Levantine Arabs (Palestinians, Jordanians, Lebanese, and Syrians), along with Iraqi and Egyptians, who are related to Eastern Mediterraneans.
(3) The Sudanese and Comorians, who tend to cluster with Sub-Saharans.
(4) The second Arabian Peninsula cluster, made up of Omanis, Emiratis, and Bahrainis.
In very simple terms, MANY of the peoples who were conquered by the Arabian expansion (fueled by the spread of Islam) started calling themselves “Arabs” as they adopted much of the Arabian culture.
quote:In layman’s terms, the people of the ancient Levant (ancestors to both the Jews and the modern Palestinians) were all closely-related to one another, and NOT to the people of the Arabian peninsula. About 3000 years ago, there was a CULTURAL (religious) split, between inter alia the Jewish and Palestinians ancestors.
Palestinians (the above-described Levantine Arabs) are genetically yery close to Jewsand other Middle East populations, including Turks (Anatolians), Lebanese, Egyptians, Armenians, and Iranians. Archaeologic and genetic data support that both Jews and Palestinians came from the ancient Canaanites, who extensively mixed with Egyptians, Mesopotamian, and Anatolian peoples in ancient times. Thus, Palestinian-Jewish rivalry is based in cultural and religious, but not in genetic, differences. The relatively close relatedness of both Jews and Palestinians to western Mediterranean populations reflects the continuous circum-Mediterranean cultural and gene flow that have occurred in prehistoric and historic times.
Thereafter, the Jewish diaspora took place, THEN the Levant was conquered by Arabians. The Palestinians ancestors adopted the CULTURE of their conquerors and perhaps even started CALLING themselves “Arabs,” just as the Greeks CALLED themselves Romans for 1500 years after THEIR conquest by Rome.

Well, Nazareth is the “Arab capital of Israel”

He was an olive skinned Jew. Of course he was from Middle East. The fact they ignore land of Canaan or the states of judea and Israel and have to use modern day Palestine oh because he was born in Bethlehem is laughable. Pure left wing tripe.

I found this kind of interesting.
quote:
Another rare early portrait of Jesus was discovered in 2018 on the walls of a ruined church in southern Israel. Painted in the sixth century A.D., it is the earliest known image of Christ found in Israel, and portrays him with shorter, curly hair, a depiction that was common to the eastern region of the Byzantine empire?especially in Egypt and the Syria-Palestine region?but disappeared from later Byzantine art.

That is very likely what he looked like. He wasn't 'white' and wasn't 'black'. He was somewhere in between and likely had an olive or dark olive complexion. We know from descriptions in The Bible he was not handsome and he certainly didn't look like the 'California surfer' Jesus we see depicted in Europe and other places where he has long straight brown or blondish hair with blue eyes. That is pure fantasy.

So, when and why did he become a long-haired hippie?

According to this article:
quote:
The long-haired, bearded image of Jesus that emerged beginning in the fourth century A.D. was influenced heavily by representations of Greek and Roman gods, particularly the all-powerful Greek god Zeus. At that point, Jesus started to appear in a long robe, seated on a throne (such as in the fifth-century mosaic on the altar of the Santa Pudenziana church in Rome), sometimes with a halo surrounding his head.
“The point of these images was never to show Jesus as a man, but to make theological points about who Jesus was as Christ (King, Judge) and divine Son,” Joan Taylor, professor of Christian origins and second temple Judaism at King's College London, wrote in The Irish Times. “They have evolved over time to the standard ‘Jesus’ we recognize.”
