There is no way to cite poverty as the reason for the extreme violence/terrible school performance. There is data from SAT scores that says to see comparable scores you have to compare white kids whose parents make $15,000 a year to black kids whose parents make $80,000.
Poverty definitely doesn't help, but it doesn't explain anywhere near all of it.

If you want to think about it in another way. If we attribute all murders to people in poverty...
You would be more than TWICE as likely to cross paths with a poor white person.... but FOUR times more likely to be killed by a poor black person.
And we could say that same thing about rape, robbery, assault, and motor vehicle theft

I don't think those percentages are correct. It's around 52% for murder. Might want to double check that

The problem with the poor black community is a cultural problem. Many of these individuals are comfortable in their lifestyles, and have zero ambition to leave. They enjoy the drama and they have come to "expect" the way to go through life is to collect a government check.
For the ones who do not find solace in this lifestyle (the minority), they get out. And yes there are ways out. The military being a very viable option, as well as the many scholarships available to the black community. The parent(s)unfortunately are mainly to blame as they are often absent from their children's life both physically and emotionally, thus creating a perpetual cycle of poverty and crime.
The problem begins and ends with the black community. The only way to fix it is for their community to step up and make changes that will go forward and truly make long-term changes. The problem with that type of change is you have to get the majority to buy in, a feat I do not believe will happen anytime in the near future.
I grew up in a heavily black and white community and there were good and bad on both sides. Unfortunately the ones who were bad came from poverty-stricken areas but they (for the most part) seemed to accept it with a sense of pride. Take that pride away and maybe that's a start...

It is worse than that. Blacks make up 13% of the population. Black males half of that. The vast majority of crime is black males age 16-30 yrs old. We are talking about 3-4% of the population being responsible for half the murders in this country. And yet they are outraged that their interaction with police tends to be slightly more confrontational than that of other races.

And we have a higher incarceration rates at almost any civilized country. You can try to blame that on crime all you like. I say that our way of rehabilitating people actually makes it worse.
It's already known that people who don't have both a father and a mother and their household are more likely to commit crimes. Well if such a high percentage of black males are incarcerated then they're going to have children who are raised without a father. Just continues the cycle
