quote:R.C. Sproul was fond of highlighting the difference between a contradiction and a paradox. A contradiction is a logical fallacy while a paradox only appears to be a contradiction, but isn't one necessarily.
So why are there discrepancies?
This distinction is important because when there seem to be two conflicting accounts, the question is whether or not those accounts can be logically reconciled in a satisfactory way to remove the contradiction.
Saying "the sky is blue" and then immediately saying "the sky is black" would be a contradiction, but saying them 12 hours apart would not be, because the law of non-contradiction states that two contradictory propositions can't be true in the same sense and at the same time. The comments about the color of the sky would not be a contradiction based on the timing. Many of the paradoxes in the Bible are resolved by understanding what sense the authors are using. Likewise, it's common that comments taken out of context create problems that simply aren't there when context is added back. This is the "sense" part of the contradiction again. It's why study of the Bible is important rather than cherry picking words and phrases out of their context.

That fool can justify anything with his mental gymnastics. He’ll respond that there are no discrepancies.
On the one hand the LORD says to sacrifice your firstborn but also seems to say not to. Then he claims to have commanded the sacrifice of the firstborn as a punishment and also says he never commanded child sacrifice nor did it ever enter his mind. It just depends on the theology of the scribe on the day the portion of the manuscript was written. Foo just picks the verses that match his theology and ignores the rest.
How did you like my comments on Akhenaten? Pretty neat that modern Jews call their god by the name of the sun god of Egypt circa 1350BCE, eh?

God used Satan to test Job. God didn't perform evil towards Job but allowed it.
1 Kings 22 is a way of saying that God will allow prophets to lie through His providence whereby God is the 1st cause but not the 2nd cause (the prophets choose to speak lies).
Jeremiah 20:7 is Jeremiah complaining about being mocked, ridiculed, beaten, and rejected for being the mouthpiece of God. Jeremiah thought he would be honored and so he, in weakness, accuses God of lying to or deceiving him even though he forgot that God told him that the peoples would fight against him (1:18-19).
2 Thessalonians 2:11 is actually explained by the previous few verses. God will raise up a man of lawlessness who will be allowed to deceive many people. Those deceptions are the "strong delusions" that God sends to keep those who are not His elect in the dark, so to speak, so that they will be condemned for rejecting the truth.
I really should learn to ignore you. You're wrong about pretty much everything in the Bible and you don't care. You appear to me as one of those false prophets that God allows to keep His enemies in the dark.

That is what he is, a footbsoldier for satan.

No, Yahweh says he will be the lying breath of the prophets. What you wrote is horseshite and is not found in the Bible. 1st and second causes? Jibberish. As usual you fabricate some pathetic excuse for what the Bible actually says. Yahweh will lie, and he will deceive, just like he deceived Adam telling him he would die the day he ate from the tree of knowledge.
And he, along with his ancient priests and scribes, continues to deceive you this very day.
Jeremiah 8:8
quote:
“How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie.

Those deceptions are the "strong delusions" that God sends
Finally. Now we are getting somewhere.

Does the Pope not own a Bible or des he not read the one he does have?

There are significant differences between what Prots say that Paul said and what Catholics say that Paul said.
Much of Prot theology comes from cherry-picking a handful of quotes from Paul's letters and declaring, "HA! See? That proves *insert Prot doctrine here*
