this is an excellent point of contention.

I think of it often. There is always this grousing about how if the GOP takes control of something, we're minutes away from Handmaid's Tale, but the realty is the exact opposite. Every time Democrats gain control of the national government, the US lurches to the left. When the GOP take any control back, nothing is ever reversed. At best, it stands still.

This can be seen by never having any actual reductions in spending or complete shuttering of agencies. The GOP will pat themselves on the back for reducing spending by less than Democrats wanted as if that's the same as stopping it all together. And even when they do THAT, the Left will scream about how they've cut programs...and because the GOP cares about what they say about them, they cave.

We're ALWAYS moving leftward. the only thing that changes in the speed at which we're going that direction.

So we’ve created a country where everyone is comfortable. There is almost zero unemployment. We all have plenty of food and are relatively healthy and live long lives.
Why are we going to war again?

It’s good that you can spell it with one hand while your other does your dirty work for yourself because you obviously have never had it.

I see a breakup as one of two outcomes. We split as the country is too big to preserve the Constitution as it was written and intended. Or, the eventual takeover of Communism as envisioned by the disciples of the Frankfurt School (Marcuse, Gramsci, Horkheimer, etc).

Balkanization is the answer.

The issue you and the author and many many people have is they see Red and Blue states. You will have red and blue areas in a separation. Think Urban vs Rural.

Louisiana is red outside of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, sans inner LC, S'port, and places like D'ville, Ferriday, etc. People would either live in these places under the new rule of the new state/ union, or leave to Cali, NY, etc. You have been seeing this in real time with people mass exiting Cali and NY for Red states.

No, just like pointing out probable alters. I think it makes for a more honest conversation.

We shouldn't need to go to war

Sensible people should decide that genderqueer artist colonies in Oregon shouldn't be governed by the same authorities as conservative Christian families in South Carolina.

The question is so often "why are you giving up and not fighting for unity!?!?!" when the question should be "does this even make sense to keep doing?"

If we were starting from scratch, nobody would decide that we should throw together a bunch of people with different viewpoints, motivations, religions, talents, work ethics, etc. and "see if we can make a go of it" - It's dumb.

That’s cool and all but basing any form of argument in an ad hominem immediately points that you have no clue about the argument.

Not near as bad as the useful idiots trying to usher it in. The pink and purple hair LGBTQiX crowd will be exterminated first. Then the uber wealthy elite next. These idiots have no idea what they are supporting and should read some history instead of trying to rewrite it. Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, and even Castro, all genocided the weirdos, academics and Hollywood types. They are too easily misled by the next great idea.

Then why not use the greatest system of government and fix itself. You think this is the first time where this country was on the brink of self-destruction?

This entire thread you've failed to acknowledge any of the actual points. We've NEVER been here before.

One of the major parties, and the one in power (and the side that currently has hold of Education, Entertainment, News and Media, etc) largely hate the country you are suggesting we try and save with them.

THEY DO NOT WANT TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY.

They want it destroyed, reimagined, etc. they want to burn this down and have their utopia rise from the ashes.

You can not coexist with a group of people who are not interested in using the system to vote you out of power and enact some thing they'd like to see done. They don't want to play nice. They don't want the Right to exist...at all. You have to give in. It's not enough to simply agree to disagree with them. They will NEVER accept being voted out, and will tireless try and undermine anyone you vote in to replace them.

Think of it this way. In a Capitalist society, you can have pockets of people who opt out and decide to commune together and live like Socialists. The reverse is not possible.

The question then becomes...what is it going to take before you listen to what they are telling you?

OP, why should we keep the country together?

I'll concede the point that it'll be complicated and messy to divide. Is that all there is?

A break up is coming. It’s not a matter of if, just when. The Leftists have absolutely destroyed this country and aren’t done yet

You’re missing the most important or biggest problem with this strategy, THEY STOLE THE LAST ELECTION AND NOTHING WAS OR HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT!!!!!!

So please tell me oh wise one, how the frick are we getting it back the way we would have decades ago?
