Bingo

Been bitten a few times, once in the face by a German Shepherd. It was my fault, I got along fine with the dog afterwards.

I just cannot imagine a situation where I would blow a lab away for running toward me, like labs do all the time.

I can’t imagine a situation where I would do it to any breed in a neighborhood. Cops do this because there are no consequences.

1.) Why are you assuming I'm pro-no-knock raids?
2.) The actual number of deaths is irrelevant if it's being used to show Labrador placement amongst other breeds. They're in the top 10. Saying "but it was a lab" is essentially saying "but it's a dog". I guess outside of pits, maybe, an officer cannot shoot any dog running at him until an attack actually happens?

Are you locking down on this? The statistical “kill rate” of labs only highlights the absurdity of this police officer’s trigger happy policing.

And FWIW, my post heading was wrong. It appears the dog was in fact a Golden Retriever which is generally another docile breed.

Cop teaches whiny coed a lesson.

Actually, the most dangerous dog is the Caucasian Mountain Dog. But the rate of their killing humans is low because so few people own one.
They get up to 200 pounds and their natural disposition is very aggressive.

1. Dogsbite.org is a joke.

2. I don’t care what kind of dog it was. It was a residential neighborhood and he shouldn’t have shot until the dog was attacking him. If you can’t handle a dog bite to reduce the risk of killing a bystander you need another line of work.

Even assuming that statistic is correct, I assume the only reason labs would make such a list is because of their overwhelmingly popularity as pets. The very reason the breed is a popular pet is because their placid and docile temperament makes them a good choice for families with small children.

Zach is opposed to such violence.
But Zach's wife would have shot the cop.

So any dog running toward you, you consider this to be a potential attack and needing to be put down?

Believe it or not, when pit bulls (which is a type of dog, not a breed) were bred for fighting there wasn’t a safer dog to have around people. A dog that bit a person, even in the middle of a life and death fight, was immediately culled.

I’m NOT defending dog fighting, I just ended up with one a long time ago and took the time to understand their history.

Right. Pit Bulls were ruined by man. I have nothing against the breed as they didn't ask to be bred to fight.

I stand by my original statement. If a dog is running at you after breaking free of it's owners grip, it's a tough call. I certainly wouldn't kill the officer over it, as many here have stated.

My acerbic comment in the OP withstanding, I certainly am not advocating for such a measure. Yet certainly I would be sympathetic to such a response if I ever sat on a jury of a citizen who was charged with shooting someone — cop or not — who maliciously targeted a family pet in such a reckless manner.

You may want to tell any friends to make sure all dogs are hidden when you visit if youre that scared of dogs.

I don’t think it’s a tough call at all. We’re not talking about some drug dealer letting loose of Satan’s lead so he can attack you, we’re talking about a pet, and more importantly we’re talking about a pet IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. Bullets do a lot of weird stuff, most shots fired miss, and I would expect a helluva lot higher threshold than “he was running towards me” before you start letting rounds fly around a bunch of innocent people. If you’re in BFE on some county road, then sure, you can be a little more proactive.

But again, they do it because they can. They’ve killed dogs while chasing a suspect through someone’s yard. Dog is contained by fence, cop jumps the fence, cop kills dog, zero consequences. That’s twisted.

Same. Unless they're snarling, foaming and have an offensive posture, its coming to get petted or get treats

Can you dial the drama queen up to an 11?

Not at all.

You said you cant tell if its an attack or not, so its a close call.

Good point. Had his shot only occurred when the dog was at his feet, with grass under the dog, would you have been ok with it?

I agree. This was not the case, though. This woman had 4 large dogs running around in the street and couldn't control any of them.
