The New York Post is not some liberal rag. And the article had all the facts. You also know nothing about dog behavior. That lab was happy and wagging her tail. A dog that is about to attack gives warning signs and their tail is certainly not up and wagging. You and I don't get to go around shooting dogs just because we might think they could nibble at us. Cops don't have that right either. The city of Loraine is beyond corrupt. The most indictments I've seen of any small town. Every official in that town needs to be hanged.

The murdered dog was a Golden Retriever NOT a yellow Labrador Retriever. These are two completely different dog breeds. But since they are similar looking to you all cat owners here I can understand your confusion!
With that said, the cop should be disciplined and never allowed on anything but desk duty IF he is not fired. He should also be Barney Fife'd if allowed to remain a cop, i.e. given one and only one bullet and told to NOT ever load it!

The cop should be fired for being a histrionic bitch with no courage and bad judgement. That being said, keep your fricking dog in your yard or your house. I had a pitbull, least vicious dog I've ever met, wouldn't hurt anything and got bullied by our 8lb cat. Did I let my dog that people were scared of run loose in the neighborhood, no? Did I take her off the leash when out hiking, no? Did I take her in the grocery store where people buy their food like I see all the time now, no? I realized if I was trashy and my dog run all over the place shitting in people's yards etc, there was a chance something bad could happen. And I sure as hell wouldn't let my dog run at a cop

And...this is what happens when you don't pay police enough and have the proper training. You don't really attract the right people.

Cops should probably be trained on basic animal behavior(or at least the most common ones in their area). It’s something they will likely encounter. Most common situations should be planned for in my opinion. Being approached by a dog is one. They should get more training in all areas.

If that's what happened, no. But I don't have audio on the clip and I don't necessarily trust the family's word on the matter.
I give someone a half second or so leeway once the danger stops to stop shooting. If he shot past that then those are bad shots for sure.

A GR (or Lab?). Btw, a GR or lab are pretty much interchangeable as both are very friendly dogs, the latter with more hair in general. A person knowing dogs would know that a GR or lab running towards a person in the manner as shown on the vid is not a threat. Freaking hell. And nardogg, why don't you pull up the stats on attacks by other dog breeds, especially pits (as I am guessing you have pits and are trying to defend/justify).

Don’t need to watch the videos but I will say if you come near my front yard fence my Lab will greet you. Most likely wagging the shite out if her tail and wanting attention.

Correct, but when the tail wag is bad there are other indicators. A stiff body with a tail sticking up and wagging is a dog about to attack/defend. I didn't see any of the other indicators in the admittedly brief video. Cop is still a shithead IMO.
