I'm done being a "Conservative".

I now identify as a "Pragmatic".

I support what makes sense.

Not sure who on the Republican side serves as the beacon for conservatives. Some of these guys that claim to be fiscal conservatives, like Ryan, are total do nothing compromised losers.

Assume Trump 2020 is successful, I don’t know who represents the Republican Party in 2024. Who takes up the fiscal conservative mantra?

I could see Trump going hard on spending in his second term, but sane people on the right would have to determine if Trump’s second term is the time to act. A solid second term by Trump and the election of another Republican continuing his momentum may actually set the country on a solid successful path. We need to let the looney left continue to destroy their party to rid ourselves of their poor policies.

what changed since Obama was in office? Those 8 years the greatest threat to America was the debt and how Obama just spent money.

Nobody cares (I do actually.)

You can tell be the length of the other thread

And how does trump or anybody else accomplish that with a couple dozen house members and about 10 senators?

Most "conservative" politicians don't have hard stances on budgets like they used too. It's why when we had control of both the House and the Senate; debloated budgets could not pass.

This recent budget passing has less to do with Trump and more to do with an ideological shift on this position in the Republican party.

Trump is not an idealist-conservative. But to be fair... who is calling for Medicare and SS cuts? I don’t hear anyone calling for that from any politely lean. And that’s our only path back to fiscal sustainability.

Unless and until somebody is able to convince the voting public of the true dangers of it (someone tell me what that is), this will be so.

To be clear, I think there are dangers to it. I believe they are far from being clearly articulable. Hence, where we are now.

But, hey, let me show I'm above it all, and shout from the mountain tops that is is MY true principle. That will show em!
