It's like I respect self-imposed term limits, but it always hurts the GOP when we run with respect and the Dems don't. It causes us to lose clout.
Two things and two things only have hurt LA GOP candidates and their “clout”:

1) Jindal
2) Vitter

It’s never going to not be this.

Job well done Doc. A shame your were done in by an Elf and the stupidity that runs rampant in the southern part of the state. You'd have made a fine governor.

He is. He would have been a good governor.

It’s a shame Rispone and Grigsby did him in like that.

Yeah, Rispone mishandled that. But Abraham just didn't have the debate chops. He didn't attack the governor enough (maybe he is too nice a guy?) and just could not get his points out cleanly enough. I originally planned on voting for Abraham, but switched when I became convinced he could not beat JBE.

And maybe democrats give JBE and the Advocate a pass for the garbage they peddled about Abraham being a pill pusher, but I don't. That was way worse than anything Rispone put out there. It's one of the worse things I have ever read in the Advocate and that's saying something.

And yes that is a safe district, but that doesn't mean it can't be screwed up. I really, really hope they get this right. They don't have to be a superstar, just a good strong backbencher.

Eddie Rispone's attacks on Ralph Abraham as a Never Trumper that votes with Nancy Pelosi and steals tax dollars was one of the most WTF bullshite attacks ever.

I may have voted for Rispone over JBE in the runoff but that attack was just absolutely despicable and showed why he deserved to lose.

Hell, the attack contributed to Rispone's defeat as JBE spent a million dollars in North Louisiana highlighting the attack in ads and it worked with JBE winning as much 10-12% of Abraham voters and that made the difference in a 51-49 election.

I hope Ralph Abraham seriously thinks about running for Governor again in 2023 as I would like to see what he can do with a second chance.

That's a huge district... so who are the potential successors?

Just repeating what I read on the Hayride, but right now his chief of staff Luke Letlow is probably the favorite. And apparently there is a R police juror who is looking at it as well.

Luke is a good guy and would be solid choice.

I would imagine that Garrett Graves will be running for governor next time around. Abraham would have no traction after 3+ years on the sidelines.

Doc is true to his word. Knew all along he was three and done.

But he's probably not finished yet.

Why would you wish that upon him?

Look I really like that Abraham. But if he couldn't get his message out in a 3 way race with JBE as the biggest target a Republican could hope for, why in hell do you think he would stand out in a field of at least 6 other republicans?

Ralph committed to serving three terms and he honored that promise today.

That amounts to six years, essentially one term in the senate and personally, I believe that's not enough time to credibly serve in the House and get real progress for your district.

I think a more appropriate self imposed term limit for the House would be 4 terms with an option for a 5th if the polls are high enough and you can run unopposed.

There is no chance that any member of the House will ever be completely unopposed in an election regardless of how high their approval is.

Sounds to me like he has a sweet lobby position lined up.

One thing, I really doubt the field will be as crowded as you think it will be. The likely candidates will be Landry, Nungesser, Mike Johnson and Hewitt possibly and I think that will be about it. Running for Governor takes a lot of money, energy and carries a good bit of risk for future political ambitions if you lose. It's not exactly like buying a lottery ticket with no risk.

As to Ralph, people like a good political comeback story and if he can credibly push the idea that Rispone lied about him and lost as a consequence of it even with his endorsement, that could get his foot in the door for second bid.

With that said, I don't believe that Ralph Abraham will run in 2023. Like I said, running for Governor carries a lot of risk for future political ambitions and losing that damages them, especially when you were a credible candidate and a front runner.

I don't mean unopposed as literally being the only one on the ballot, I mean with no serious and credible challenger that has the money, name recognition and clout to beat you.

Bobby Jindal had a democrat challenger for reelection in 2011 where he won with 66% of the vote. Do you remember that candidate's name without looking it up?

Damn Doc did great things for LA-5. Hopefully my district does not screw it up and elect Jamie Mayo or Willie Robertson.

If Mike Johnson wanted the seat, he would be the favorite.

Monroe police juror Scotty Robinson has been running for months. Hardly a political powerhouse.

Hopefully Jamie and Willie will stay out. Their ships have sailed and they're both taking on water.

Sounds like something LA-5 would do.
