someone should tell BOTH of those yahoos that the United States is both a “democracy“ and “republic.“ A republic is one of several FORMS of democracy.

Not a democracy, in a democratic system.

Progressives and their "evolving" definitions.

Change the language, change the culture.

True democracies have no constitution to protect you from the mob. The obfuscation is purposeful on their part.

The reason he is upset is because democrats are using the word “democracy” to condition people into believing the United States is a democracy instead of a democratic republic. In a democracy every vote counts, instead of citizens as described by the Constitution. This is why they opened the borders. They are conditioning people to believe that everyone should get to vote just because they are here.

By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority.

Aristotle defined democracy as simply "rule of the many." A direct democracy is democracy. A republic is democracy. Anything where the masses are asked for their consent and vote is democracy.

We don't even have democracy (not that you really want it anyway). We have oligarchy, rule of the few.

“Democracy” is clearly a term the Dems have polled and put through focus groups.

Why? Who is the target? Women voters? Old people?

I believe this.

When most of your constituents have never taken a basic civics class, its easy to fool them.

The left wants a direct democracy.

Mob rule works best when you have large voting blocs like BLM, illegals, and LBGTQ on your team. The benefit of a constitution is to prevent ideocracy.

“Democracy” is a commie dogwhistle and 9/10 times the person moaning about “threats to democracy” would strip away your rights to participate in it without hesitation.

Exactly.

Can you imagine if we had a legit democracy at the national level? I would love to see the public pore through the ACA and try to figure that shite out. Our elected Reps can't.

People would just vote against it and any other massive spending because we’re too lazy….Hey, maybe it wouldn’t be all that bad after all. Lol

10 years ago I would have agreed, but I think as older people die off, spending impulses will increase. Younger folks don't seem to have a grasp of economics.

Older folks didn't do them any favors though over the past 20 years.

I question everything. It is my nature. limiting the franchise would, in my opinion, probably produce better government. On the other hand, universal suffrage also has points in its favor, including the fact that it increases the “buy in” element. candidly, I ambivalent on the matter, but I usually end up leaning in the direction of some restrictions on the exercise of the franchise.

I can almost guarantee that Al Sharpton doesn’t think as deeply about such issues as you do. You have to admit, Sharpton is having a tough week. His mental edification ceased sometime in the 1960s.

Very flattering, but I would be quite content if you simply read and try to understand. You would be the better for it.
