Ports are understaffed and Trucker shortages continue.
Where did all the employees go? How the hell can they survive off of unemployment, I know I couldn't do that. I was Furloughed for 3 weeks, without the extra Gubment cheese my benefits were less than 50% of my regular salary.
WTF is going on?
Were you also paying your mortgage/rent. I'm guessing you were and these people are not because they know they can't be evicted. Unemployment/Welfare goes a long way when you don't have to pay rent.

The truckers and Longshoremen make a hell of lot more than the couch potato government crap. That's not the issue ...Government hand outs.
The ships in port will not leave until empty containers are loaded for the trip back.
Part of the problem is training new truck drivers for long existing jobs. One way to accomplish that is to bring experienced truckers w/o licenses and kill the four month training period and costs. All I need is one month on the road then get the hell out of the truck. This team crap makes no sense whatsoever. The older experienced drivers are more cordial than the young maniacs that get their licenses today. I got hit by a kid working with a passport

They need to be able to build stack trains faster too.

Oh yeah I paid all the bills. Even with the extra Gubment Cheese it was still about 30% less than my monthly salary.

That's not true at all, unfortunately. Ships quite often sail without empties, that's why you can buy containers for your own usage...
Ships are definitely bypassing ports altogether right now for even full containers.

I work for a non-union port operator that has facilities across the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Finding decent labor has been very hard to come by. We can barely run 1 day shift working multiple hatches per ship at 5 berth facilities much less 3 shifts. It’s shite work for shite pay so unfortunately it’s tough to recruit.

IB is a legit idiot. And that is fact, not name calling.
There are too many times he has been proven to be just plain wrong. It’s post here makes no sense but it is not here to make sense just to be an obstacle to healthy discussion

How about an example???
A healthy discussion here in the minds of most is how best to contort arguments to defend Trump’s latest critic.

I feel like these were the jobs most vulnerable to the covid stimulus payments, unemployment benefits, eviction/mortgage suspensions, etc. Every shite job place around here, in Miss, is pleading for labor. They’re all posting signs and slowly upping their hourly wage. I sat in the Taco Bell parking lot last night for about thirty minutes before some guy slowly walked out and nonchalantly handed me my food. They close at 8pm every night.
To be honest, I don’t blame people for not scrubbing toilets if they don’t have to. Those better jobs they should get, like an executive position at Taco Bell, a job at Monsanto, or even an equities trader that buys and sells Pepsi stock, are all possible because those people have been bent over and railed in the butt forever. When they got the chance, they bailed on the whole project. Don’t expect them to care about the ripple effects that finally hit you. The ripple effects of capitalism have been hitting them in the face forever. They feel like it’s your turn.
I’m not denying that it’s upsetting the system. I’m not arguing for socialism. I’m just arguing for a little understanding of their perspective.

You’re absolutely correct. And to your point the base wages for these jobs are rising to where several jobs are operating at a loss due to shipping lines not wanting to pay higher rates but the labor pool is still very thin especially in those skill positions like forklift operators, crane operators, etc. You can find any warm body to hook/unhook cargo but unfortunately it takes more than that to get it from point A to point B.
