I'm gonna throw this out for y'alls consideration, a bit of a theory...
When I worked on the ISS Flight Control Team in Moscow, I met a lot of the NASA folks who were more liaisons to Russia and international work than they were anything engineering, technical, or operations. Basically NASA/JSC's version of the State Dept.
These guys were VERY heavily Left leaning and Democrat/Liberal. A couple were real "America screwed up the world" types, and this was in 1999 and 2000, BEFORE George W. Bush piled on all that extra hate and protesting.
Anyway, the NASA folks who were engineers, operations, technical folks.. most were conservative and/or Republican.
Perhaps this is replicated in the Military. The closer one is to the State Dept., the Deep State, and loves American entanglement in the Middle East... I imagine these guys really preferred ALL the Presidents before Trump.
