Your dumb premise is so fundamentally flawed as to not make it worth arguing.

I think it's just the one "extra" paycheck they receive, not a couple months worth. Perhaps essentially equivalent to an annual bonus.

But I could be wrong on that. I let me certificate of expertise in teachers' affairs lapse.

The salaries that need to be suspended at schools are ADMINISTRATORS. There is nothing to administer when the school is closed.

So, you think when the schools are closed no one is planning for the next year? No one is paying bills or taking deliveries? No one is running payroll? No one is upgrading facilities?

It’s a huge business, in many cases the biggest employer in each Parish, and business can’t and don’t completely shutdown unless they are out of business.

I imagine electricians who spend 10 hours in an attic without air conditioning have it much worse.

Months ago, I said public education was an abomination and should be abolished. I even mentioned how online education was the future. Looks like I was ahead of the curve on that one.

Government is a better example.

I agree - the teachers are not far behind, but every government employee should be subject to severe paycheck reduction for the duration.

Any 'non0essential' govt employee should be either laid off (hoorah) or cut to minimalist wages until the economy recovers to some normal status.

You need a different union. We have not seen or heard from our kids teachers in 3 weeks. Period. Do you really want someone following you around?

This is such a flawed argument, the fact he doesn't seem to understand teaching one child is easier than teaching 60+ is comical.

Suspend those summer months paychecks and save our governments a shite ton of money since we are in dire straits economically presently

As has been alluded to previously in this thread, salaries are spread out over a year for a certain number of contracted days. As a teacher, I would not desire it but have somewhat expected salaries to be pro-rated based on the actual number of days worked.

I have no intention of speaking ill/singing the praises of fellow educators but can only speak for myself. I am sickened by what has transpired and feel that 8 months of instruction has basically been nullified by the cancellation of testing and formal evaluations, though I am sure that many see that as a positive.

There was not an apparatus in place to effectively continue the instructional year. The contingency plans of assigning remedial work via online educational platforms is mainly for appearance, as scores are not recorded and are not mandatory. During the first week, participation was at ~50%. It is now <10%.

I would be amazed but gladdened if we returned in May.

Because they have already earned that salary. Their salary is disbursed over a year while they work a partial year.
They could be paid that SAME salary over the school year only, but their payments are spread out.
