Still waiting on other members of this board to tell us how their personal interactions with refugees have gone.
Funny how many people in this thread obviously know no Muslims and think that this is the time to provide their completely weightless opinions on the topic.

I find the festishization of immigration to be odd.

Contrary to popular belief on this board, muslims are not trying to invade america by the fricking sword. You people are fricking dumbasses to believe that

The western suburbs of Sydney are full of Muslims. I would say some of the suburbs, such as Bankstown, Punchbowl, Lidcombe, and Yenorra are 80% or more Muslim. There are ethnic gangs and crime; usually the Muslims vs. the Chinese. In my years there there were incidents of gang rapes of white girls by Muslim boys for the simple reason they were white. There were honor killings. The neighborhoods were generally shitty. They can't drive worth shite. Give me some time and I'm sure I can think of some more things. Downvote away.
EDIT: My sister-in-law (no pics) took a teaching gig at a mostly Muslim school in Sydney after she graduated to get her foot in the door of the school system. She showed me some of the weird, twisted shite these high school aged kids wrote about Australia or western society.
I worked with a handful. Of the six I can remember, only one turned out to be friendly. Her parents were from Turkey and she was westernized. Four were your friends as long as they needed something from you, but would stab you in the back in a heartbeat. One flat out told me the first week I was there that he would have nothing to do with me because I was an American. His wife was a nut and wore the full gear. Others at work referred to her as "the ninja." My wife (no pics) had a couple of friends who were Muslim. I ended up going to one of their (arranged) weddings, which was an experience in itself. The other married a total a-hole who made it clear that I wasn't invited to their wedding because I was an infidel American. This occurred not long after we invaded Iraq in 2003, and American popularity was kind of at a low in Oz at that time. The wife was invited but didn't go. Turned out he was a wife-beater, which was no surprise.

I was attacked by tolerant stick wielding muslims for being in a bar past 10 during Ramadan.

My personal experience with Muslims is similar even if much less compelling.
The people on this board have a lot of opinions regarding Muslim immigrants/refugees. Perhaps some of you could share some of your personal experiences

Yeah, I'm sure they're thankful for the established Sharia law court that Dallas has been gracious enough to provide them. We need a sharia law court in every city.

Depends on the Syrians.I know one who came here and could not speak the language at first, but now speaks almost without an accent and he was from a city on the Mediterranean coast....not a particularly religious guy, in fact he told me that most of the Sryians were rather secular overall and that Assad (both of them) really did not want the stupid religious types stirring up trouble...he likes Assad....but he likes his job as a floor manager at a Tahoe casino better ..... perks .

I once got on an elevator. Immediately after I got in, several middle eastern men entered the elevator. Their BO was so bad that I got off on the next floor before I threw up.

My daughter's special ed teacher is a Muslim from Pakistan. An older lady who doesn't wear any head gear. She's wonderful in every way.

A former colleague of mine is a Muslim from Paki. One of the coolest guys I know. He's also technically skilled and contributes quite a bit to our society.

I have lived around and worked with a surprising number of Muslims in the past 10-12 years. I say surprising because I honestly didn't stop to think about it before, and I was surprised.
The first were Turkish Muslims at the University of North Alabama. There is a large Turkish population on campus. Most seemed very friendly to me, but I came to find out a lot of that was because I am male. Many of my female friends had some shocking and strange interactions with some of these men. I am certain I even stopped an assault of some sort happening at one point. Any of the practicing Muslims from Turkey were almost impossible to deal with, and the creepy stories told by the co-eds were enough to stay away from that crowd. At the time, the Muslim part didn't really click with me. The non-Muslims or non-practicing Muslims from there were pretty decent people. Also used to smoke weed from a hookah with a group of the non-practicing Turks. They mix it with tobacco.
At UNA I also dated a Muslim chick from Lebanon for a short while. I wasn't a very upstanding individual in those days, so when she wouldn't put out I stopped talking to her. Could only get to 3rd base. Before that, though, I attempted to teach her how to drive. She was completely terrified of the prospect of even trying. The more I learned about what she had been taught in areas like that, the more surprising it was that she was ever allowed to leave her country for an education. It was also quite obvious that her friends would not talk to her when she was around me. Did not seem odd to me at the time, but she is the only girl who's friends have treated me that way. I have to wonder if it had something to do with her being romantically involved with a non-Muslim.
During my time working at a hotel with J-1 visa workers, we had many Malaysian Muslims and non-Muslims come over. In this situation, they all got along great with us. However, all of the non-Muslims, 100% the time, always talked about how none of the Muslims would talk to them once they all went home. Apparently there is a caste system there where Muslims are considered better than everyone else. I guess they turned that off for the year they were over here. Then again, most of the Malaysians would never be seen with everyone else at bars or restaurants when we would all go out together, so maybe they didn't turn it off at all.
ETA: Was brought to my attention that my bases are off. I couldn't get passed 2nd base with the Lebanese chick.

Yes, here, in Europe, and in the Middle East. I also helped a friend - who was the very literal definition of a refugee (his family was getting threatened and killed because of who he was and what he was doing) - get a visa. It's a complicated issue.
Some groups - between religions, within religions, between countries, within countries - assimilate better than others. What Germany and Sweden did was stupid. What Trump is trying to do is equally stupid.
