No ma'am.
Let's take SK for example...
1- Now they are allowing 2 times the amount of cars admitted into their nation from the US.
2- They also reduced by 1/3rd the amount of steal they dumped into our markets.
3- It forced China to work with Trump on NK
4- and they are indeed at the table talking trade.

Continuing....
1- Korea Solar will open a plant here to avoid tariffs
Several foreign solar cell and module makers said they’re exploring options to avoid potential trade restrictions by opening new solar manufacturing facilities in the U.S.
JinkoSolar in Jacksonville.
Adani Solar is in the process....
etc etc

Hanwha Q Cells Korea Corporation — a Korea-based manufacturer of photovoltaic materials — will be opening a facility in Georgia, slated to be up and running by 2019, the company announced Thursday. The move will allow the company to produce and sell panels to U.S. customers without having to deal with import penalties.

You can laugh all you want. It's happening.

They are. I don’t like taxes when they grow the federal government.

Why aren’t the anti tax people getting excited about this?
Because the other side (trading partners) are taxing us more and sometimes taxes have to be used to bring reciprocal taxes down.

individual facilities open and close all the time
you think this is convincing evidence of a turnaround of some major decades-long trend?

Yes in the short run, if it means lower taxes in the long run.
You don’t sit at the negotiating table half cocked.

I see the left is taking a break from their kiddy porn to pretend they know something about economics.

Mark Levin was slightly critical of Trump about his diplomacy with NK the last few days. He said when dealing with foreign nations EVERYTHING must be on the negotiating table.
But for Mark when it comes to trade negotiations the aces are pulled.

That is fine as long as you don’t abdicate national sovereignty to some far away commission.

if a tariff results in a buyer shifting to their not-first choice, it makes them worse off. just like it is for any tax that isn't even-handed
If they can shift to another choice, it's not inelastic. If they can shift to a choice that isn't subject to tariff, taxes won't increase due to increased tariffs. Therefore it's elastic.
Stop.
quote:
saying that you must assume inelasticity for a tariff to be a tax is nonsensical, full stop
Tariffs are only taxes on American consumers if the Americans choose to buy the goods. Therefore, stating that tariffs are automatically taxes are American consumers implies that Americans have no choice but to pay the tariffs, meaning that Americans have no choice on the goods subject to tariffs, making them inelastic.
Full stop.

yes, and the availability of this response has literally zero bearing on whether the reason they're shifting is due to a tax
that's why what you've been saying is so weird

Dude.... I AM ON YOUR SIDE ON THIS ISSUE
We end up paying the tax in form of higher prices
but we are NOT the ones writing the check to irs
The more that comes out of my pocket...the less I have.
When the federal government is the cause of it...then it is a tax.

in louisiana i can buy certain food that is subject to sales tax and certain food that is not
if the tax on some food causes me to buy the food that isn't taxed, does that mean that the taxed food is untaxed? of course not
