Service when needed is almost non existent. Tesla does not have franchise dealers with service departments.
They do have their own company owned shops but they are few and far between. And they do break. a lot. How much? Tesla won't say and the public and automotive press is stuck with anecdotal data.
JD Power has always been the gold standard for measuring vehicle quality. They do it by obtaining ownership records from the OEMs since you can't get it from vehicle registrations anymore (privacy). JD Power asks the owners how many problems did you have with you vehicle when new, then after 6 months, etc. I think they go to 3 years ar more. except Tesla is the only OEM that will not give JD Power their customers info. You can only assume they are trying to hide something.
It's cool to come up with a new electric car that's fast. It's another world in building quality cars in volume at an affordable prices and have money left over to pay for warranty repairs and recalls. It is clear to industry observers that Tesla has not figured out how to do this.

Do you live in cold weather?
If yes, move along
If no, then purchase new M3 for $28K and be severely disappointed in quality of purchase despite your love affair with the car and return a week later for free

Really?
I see a Tesla and don't think twice about it. I definitely wouldn't approach someone and ask about it.

I see one and I generally think "Oh look, a douche."

meh...they are meant to be your daily car. Not your touring car.
I understand that, but doesn't that make spending $44K on a car make it very impractical? I guess I weighing the issue of practicality. $44k gets you a nice car than you can drive anywhere. If you are only driving a few miles a day, the mileage costs would be negligible.
If my truck gets 10 miles/gallon and I only drive it 20 miles a day, I'm spending what amounts to a cup of Starbucks. Meanwhile, I have the option to drive it from coast to coast, if need be.

And they just announced that they are closing all their retail stores.
Sounds desperate

Plus, I know major car companies like Ford, GM, BMW, etc are mostly likely going to be around for a while. Tesla? Who knows.

That is a personal decision.
200 miles is a pretty long drive. So, it isn't as if even the least practical Tesla is a terrible burden.
I'd guess most Tesla owners have two vehicles and that 250 miles covers 85% of there needs. So, 15% of the time, they HAVE to use the other vehicle (or, plan their routes carefully with stops along the way).
But, for the other 85% of the time, they have a vehicle they love.

I'm in my car maybe 20 to 30 min at a time. I have a music player that plays anything I want, but I rarely use it, unless I'm traveling. And I wouldn't be going out of state in a Tesla anyway

I must have missed this part. Seen many Teslas, and nothing more than people glancing at them. Never seen anyone approach an owner. You can sit in them at the mall. No need to harass a stranger

Lastly, cars are not investments, you do not buy a car for the money savings
Exactly the reason I will never own a Tesla. I'm not spending money that can be invested on something that I am dumping at a huge loss within 7-8 years. Makes absolutely no sense to me

That is three base model price on the website after they calculate their BS gas savings discount hahaha

So liberals don't care about the environment when yellow and brown people they never see suffer the consequences?
Mild shock.

$8,000 tax credit helps.
I think electric cars are more a “want” than a “need”.
With gas prices lowering, I drive my Land Cruiser a lot more than normal.

My brother in law has a Fiat electric car that he bought used two years ago for $9000. He uses it daily to drive to and from work. It came with a 10-year warranty that covers everything bumper to bumper. He has had no problems to date. When he gets home he charges it at his house, said any increase in his electric bill is hardly noticeable. He estimates that he has already saved $3500 on fuel cost alone. It’s my understanding that because it’s electric and not powered by a combustion engine, there are less moving parts and it’s cheaper to maintain. I would think Tesla officers a similar warranty.

So you can have a car that's named after a genius. not built by a genius, mind you, but named after one.
I would rather have one with a helicopter blade on top and rockets on it, that is named after Leonardo Da Vinci.

I think the 0-60 and the giant iPad screen are both novel. Other that, he’ll naw!
