I've ridden in one and it feels like you are getting shot out of a cannon when taking off from a red light. It is UNBELIEVABLY fast. It scared the living shite out of me.
To answer the OP - they are great cars. To answer the rest of you good ole boys, if that thing can move that fast, there's no way we won't be plugging in our pickups one day.
A car that cool is the better moustrap that will allow the free market to do more environmentally friendly shite.
I do love me some oilfield industry - but I would love to never pump gas into my car again.

One day electric cars will be able to match combustion cars. That day hasn't gotten here yet.

How else are you going to look down on Prius owners with disdain?
Posted on 5/28/19 at 1:20 pm to Nado Jenkins83
They need to escape the battery paradigm to become successful.
Posted on 5/28/19 at 1:21 pm to i am dan
They are ridiculously fast, the safest cars on the road and can drive themselves but other than that I don't know.

The more people buys one, the less demand for fuel there is. The less demand, the cheaper it is.
Keeps the cost down to about 50 bucks to fill up the wife’s 14.5 mpg Nissan Armada she loves.
I’ll wave in appreciation as I pass by on the interstate as you stop for the third time in a day to wait almost an hour to charge.

This is more detrimental than carbon immissions could ever hope to be. I'm all for cleaner modes of transportation and protecting the environment, but battery powered cars are not the answer.
FIFY, because it ain't just Tesla.
The "pros" on a Tesla are:
It's much cheaper/convenient than a gas vehicle as long as you aren't ranging beyond 150 miles per day (yes, range is 208, but that's ideal - use of A/C and start/stop traffic will reduce it)
None of the maintenance issues related to combustion engines
Pretty cool cars (especially the S)
Cons
Much worse for environment than ICE
Limited range and a lot of time to charge destroys any offset for an ICE vehicle
Inherent range issues in extreme cold/hot climates, as these accelerate battery degradation
Maintenance/repair options limited

When I had mine, it was because it looked good and a fun car to drive. It wasn't because it was economical or green.
It couldn't do everything I needed, and when my old truck finally died, I consolidated into one vehicle, instead of having two for different tasks.

Every time someone buys a Tesla it removes a straw from a turtle.... I like turtles

The reason people are anti-tesla is because they think Trump is anti-tesla and only leftists Democrats in California buy them. It really is that simple.
Ya, it can't be that the company and the CEO is a complete fraud. Couldn't be that. Couldn't be that Ewon tells his customers his cars are autonomous when they are killing people. Couldn't be all of the channel stuffing. Can't be the ZEV credits being the only reason it's still in operation. Can't be that the CEO has violated multiple securities laws and gets away with it. Probably not the fraudulent Solar City "Acquisition" or using Space X funds to purchase cars. Probably isn't the robo-taxi lie. The doxing. None of that.
The lefty bagholders are just icing on the cake for haters. It's quite enjoyable to watch Tesla write down their inventory almost weekly at this point and used car prices taking a 50% haircut over night

This is just false, and it shows you have never driven one. The modelS makes other cars seem like a horse and carriage. Say what you want about the company/CEO but the cars (S/X) are crazy.
Also they aren't meant to autonomous, the "auto-pilot" is just a driving assist on steroids. Killing people? wtf? Are other cars "killing people" when drivers fall asleep behind the wheel?

Because you can.
The worst thing IMO is the average cost to insure a Model 3 Tesla is @ the same as a 911 Porsche per year for a person with great credit and driving record. I could be wrong, but pretty sure I read that when I started looking into them pretty hard.

Think how fast Telsa has evolved.
The work they are doing is game-changing. Are they there yet? No, obviously not, petrol vehicles have had 150 years of innovation and evolution.
What Elon/Tesla has done in 16 years is damn amazing and will only get better.
To think this guy is also revolutionizing the rocket industry with SpaceX, and it also about to release Neuralink to bridge the gap between computers and the human brain,
I'm convinced he is either a} an alien or b) a time traveler. or c) he IS AI himself
Like him or not, the work he is doing is for the better good and world-changing.

You are in love with technology that every other electric car has. It's not specific to Tesla. It's just other cars actually work in the winter, have operational doors, don't blow up in parking lots and you can actually receive service on your car, unlike Tesla.

Drivers aren't trusting an unreliable software program that can barely function to drive them down the road. It's a completely separate issue than people falling asleep at the wheel.

Again, you have clearly never driven one. Show me an electric car that can outrun a modelS. Mine worked just fine in the winter, had operational doors, and not once blew up in the driveway.

So it's Tesla's fault that people are doing exactly what the company says not to do. Got it. Mine could easily get me to work and back with very little input from me.
You have just convinced yourself that you don't like Tesla for some reason, and you are trying to rationalize it. You don't have to like or buy one, but your excuses are rather weak, and it makes it clear that you have never even sat in one.

I have.
My in-laws just took delivery of theirs in December.
It is like witchcraft to me.

JDPoers surveys new car owners for initial quality and then again over various time periods to gauge the problems that the owners report.
All OEMs give their ownership list to JDPower because they are considered the gold standard as far as accuracy and integrity. All EXCEPT TESLA. They do not give out their owner list.
SO how is the buying public determining their quality? They guess. Can't talk to dealers because they are none. Tesla owns all of their repair shops and there are not that many. But the automotive press and websites are full of stories of waiting up to 6 weeks to get your Tesla out of their repair facilities.
That's not good at all but that is not the biggest reason to be cautious. Tesla is in financial trouble. They are burning through cash and will have trouble borrowing or selling any more stock. Wall Street wants to see profits and quality.
So would I buy one. Hell no. If Tesla fails their resale value goes to near zero.

I hate Tesla for the same reason I hate Enron, Theranos and MDXG. It's a full blown scam. Apparently that's too weak of an argument for you which is fine. Glad you like your S, I hear those at least don't have the quality issues that the X and 3 have. Hopefully you didn't buy it off the lot before the prices were slashed so you didn't get bagged too hard

Yes, Model 3 is a damn good bit more than originally advertised (which was in the mid $30k).
Yep and that's going to keep a lot of people from buying them. I've said for years now that I believe they need to get the price down to $30k or below in order to make enough of an impact to really change the market in a way that makes purchasing one feasible for most people (ie: enough of the population buys them to encourage charging/battery-changing stations in more than just large urban centers).
