I think controllability of the candidate plays a huge role in who Democrats choose for prominent positions. The more dirt you have on someone, the more favors you can get. So why not stick a total slimeball in there? The Democrat base could care less.
I see this same thing happen when lawyers are pushing certain candidates to win judgeships. The most honest lawyers are rarely supported by their peers when running. Its all about who can do the most for you once elected.

These are great questions and actually get to the heart of how inbred and out of touch the party is.
Shapiro upset the Muslim-obsessed, queers for Palestine sect of the party. Tim Walz was seen as someone who would… wait for it….. appeal to masculine men.
