I hear the company is very, very quick to point out how many gay, black, trans, and illegal workers they hired since 2017 though.

The environmentalist whackos owns most the responsibility.
100% true.
The fight to overplant and protect every fricking tree in a natural desert has caused nothing but problems.
An internal fight over water that's gone on for over a century and the man made problem of fire hazards by the dry trees and legislation banning controlled burns.

Calfire currently has a goal of burning 20,000 acres a year, a goal put into place in 2016.
Last year.. Calfire came close with 19,000 acres control-burned. But two years ago, only 13,000 acres were burned while the previous three years each saw only around 3,000 acres burned.
“If we had made this investment 10 or 20 years ago we would have seen – in some areas – smaller, less damaging fires.”
Part of that has been a funding and resource issue, Calfire says. But it’s also come from pushback.
“There’s more fire in the landscape than the shrublands, the native shrublands, can tolerate,” said Richard Halsey, Director of the California Chaparral Institute. “So anything less than every 30 years, what starts happening is the native shrubs start disappearing and they get replaced by more flammable grasses.”

ALL democrat governance is based on satisfying some grievance group at the expense of the greater population and logical methodology.
I read an article a guy wrote that's been researching the issue for 4 years. Jerry Brown in the most ironic move ever, pushed for "green energy" policies and regulated the nuclear industry because of the threat that nuclear energy production posed to his family's oil and gas business
He knew green alternatives would never threaten the market for O&G. I love it how Democrat voters are so naive that they think all we need is "better people." Worked out well for Californians.

Cool, so they fold and everyone lives off grid or only on solar wind? What's the end game there?

It is probably illegal in the State of California to cut limbs without a permit.
And permits are not issued.
My God man, think of the squirrels and woodpeckers. There is no need to trim trees (or do any kind of responsible forestry practices).

Difficulty getting approval to trim trees and clear brush is a big part of it. Also, unique CA law imposes strict liability on the utilities, without having to prove negligence.
