They will pump out woke crap at a loss. It will be like the WNBA. Unable to exist on it's own, depending on TRADITIONAL movies to prop up their social experiments.

This winter, A single transgender person moves to a quaint little diverse town, and finds love with another person during totally non-secular events. Although legally allowed to marry, they decry the institution and opt to live as partners as they adopt a gay chinese person that has yet to gender-declare. Join these persons on their journey, in "Return to Wokeville."

Really? Not one? Not even one? That's ridiculous.

Besides, what I responded to wasn't "varied sexual partners." It was simply "interracial couples." As if their mere portrayal is somehow a problem. Come on now

Nah, entertainment isn't necessarily formulaic.

Does it seems every darn commercial, with a couple, is now mixed race? One white and the other dark skinned.

Tbird. I have watched many shows and movies and it is much more difficult to find something on tv without the producers throwing perverted relationships in the story lines. Most are not even needed, just to do it it seems.

Not one is an exaggeration. It is many. Is that better.

We are past the interracial issues. I hope any way. And that in of itself is not a form of perversion.

From the article..

quote:

Asked for specific examples of positive changes in on-screen representation, Vicary pointed to The Christmas House from this past holiday season, a multi-generational story about a couple (Treat Williams and Sharon Lawrence) with two grown sons, one of whom is in a same-sex marriage. “And what I’m really excited about is our first gay lead which is coming out this weekend in Mix Up in the Mediterranean, starring Jeremy Jordan,” she said.

I do not know how we got to interracial relationships in this discussion. I must have missed some posts.

I do see it mentioned in the next paragraph.

Nope. You haven't watched enough. My wife was watching one this past Christmas where one of the main character's was in the closet but came out for a new "man" in town.

Oh, THAT'S your outrage from that image? It's not the pedophilia, it's those gross black girls!

I know he was probably trying to be funny.

Clever in a way, because, although bad, the explicit racism doesn't seem quite as malevolent as the implied pedophilia.

If Hallmark does that, they'll be ok.

I don't disagree with that, but you know they can't help themselves.

They will have *ahem* "above average" representation of minorities, IR couples, gay, trans, etc., AND they will - without exception - have to deal with discrimination from - anyone? Anyone?

Straight, white, Christian males.

Such an easy plot device. Such a popular villain archetype. Easy as falling off a log.

If they go that route, they'll be in trouble. Agreed. But yeah, if you get a chance, check out my example from Netflix. Operation Christmas Drop. That's their blueprint for success right there. Easy as pie. The "villain" in that one (if you could call it that) was probably the white female politician. White male lead was the good guy. Black female lead was kind of a bitch who came around to seeing things his way and helping him save the day, as it were. Based on a true story/annual event. But Hallmark could mix and max elements of just that kind of story all day long (even with gay protagonists) and have good movies without them feeling like they're preachy. Not once during Operation Christmas Drop did it feel like they were beating the viewer over the head about interracial relationship storyline tropes. Wasn't even a subplot, actually. Time and place for that, but I'm just interested in a decent movie, and that's what that did.

I heard good things about it. Mrs. Midnight does watch a bunch of those "Hallmark-style" movies every November/December and I don't know if she watched this one or not. Not my cup of tea.

When the swirl is in that direction (which is certainly more rare both IRL and onscreen relative to the other way), that might be striking enough to go without further comment. Also, could just be organic storytelling without having to hit the viewer over the head with it as you've suggested.

When a company goes out of their way to announce such a move, I fear we're going to get the whole nine yards.

Yep, that's the ticket, IMO. My wife and I were talking about that RE: "Jingle Jangle." We liked it because it was OBJECTIVELY good. It was part of the "black voices" collection, but thr storyline didn't revolve around that fact.

So a relatively successful business man is gonna lose his trans gf to a hometown hunk (probably who “she” played high school football with) with a kid who shows her the meaning of Christmas while she’s stranded there because of a real estate deal she’s working on to sell the property that the local Christmas tree farm to a greedy developer keeps getting held up because of small town tomfoolery.

Television is dead. Movies are dead. It’s all the same recycled crap with the same lame actors. YouTube is all I watch because there’s so much content on anything.
