Drug addiction is usually a good measure of social misery. It's a symptom of dysfunction.
So the problem here is not the opioids, but what lead to it.

Lortab went schedule 2 and here we are. This was supposed to fix everything! What happened,
exactly. Of course pain pills are addictive but that wouldn't be a problem if they were made more available. People self medicate if they need to and find pain pills to be a better anti-depressant than anti-depressants such as Zoloft and celexa, etc. When this option was taken away from them they went with what was available, which was heroin in many cases.

religion use to be the opiate of the masses, now opioids have become the opiate of the masses.
I have to modify that in that marijuana has become more of the opiate of the masses more so than opioids, especially in some regions of the country more so than in others.
Either way, both are probably better for your health than alcohol

I agree with that part. Was so hypocritical when Rush Limborg was using that excuse. People take them because they like the effects they have on them. Just like with weed and alcohol, they don't consider or take into account the long term negative effects they will have on them.
It's not a question of manning up, it's a question of weighing the pros and cons of the substance just like you would do with any other drugs or substances (alcohol, weed, coke, cigarettes, dope, quaaludes, clickums, alieve, etc.)

More people died from overdoses last year than in the Vietnam War.
Crisis is an apt word.

Is anyone sick of hearing about this?
Yes. The Trumpzis are trying to distract us from his shite show of an administration.

Well some have gotten addicted because the effect they have on them is it reduces the chronic pain they have to a tolerable level. And yes, many others have gotten addicted because they enjoy the high it gives them. It's important to make that distinction, and it's often very difficult for doctors to discern the two when they have a patient in their office.

I'm a little more sympathetic than you but I tend to agree overall with what you're saying.

Except people didn't make the choice to go to Vietnam for the scenery.

Drug overdoses is the leading cause of death for people under 50. Fair to call it a crisis.

No dipshit. I'm saying if you want to stop bad enough you will whether or not you go to rehab or not. I should know not to respond to your dumb arse on this site just from the stupidity you spew on the SECR

I mostly agree with you.

You understand how some (myself included) are able to draw a distinction between a person who goes out and voluntarily engages in recreational behavior that leads to a particularly bad addiction - then does little to fight it until he or she hits rock bottom, leaves a path of destruction and only THEN wants our sympathy and help when the party's finally over and a person who, under doctor's orders (often in a clinical, inpatient setting) develops a dependence on drugs and only then engages in antisocial behavior to feed this addiction?
Can't you see this is a clear distinction?

So our government should pay for their troubles? You are the neo con of the board right?
It isn't "our government" footing the bill it is you and I.....and you and I are going to foot the bill because the vast majority of us thinks it is the right thing to do.

Not replying to you specifically, but did anyone catch the press conference yesterday from our President?
I was a little disappointed in the lack of ideas and solutions for addressing the problem. It seemed to be more of the same old, same old tactics from the WoD: stiffer federal penalties, enforcing the laws, etc.
Anyone have a different take?

Where would you get the idea that Trump and Sessions could possibly have any constructive ideas or solutions?

I had surgery a couple months ago and when I woke up they asked what my pain level was on a scale of 1-10. I told them a 6. They said "I don't believe you, it should hurt more." They gave me 20 oxycodone. I maybe took three.
Had an ingrown toenail cut out and the doctor gave me 20 lortabs. I took two.
The opioid crisis is a huge problem, but it's also a problem that people without legitimate pain problems are being given these amounts of painkillers. I didn't want that many. I consciously choose not to take them any longer than I absolutely needed to. In both of the above cases I was uncomfortable once I switched to Tylenol or Ibuprofen. But I didn't truly need the extra 18 pills or however many I wound up with. In the case of the surgery, I told them I wasn't in unbearable pain. They said I needed them anyway. Why?

There aren't many govt agencies I dislike more than the DEA.

Trumps suggestion that law enforcement and the border will solve the epidemic is completely inadequate.
