I guess if you can afford your house and 7% interest rates then screw anyone else who can’t am I right? You can say that people need to be responsible with child rearing and also admit that child care is a necessity for most families and that necessity is charged at absurd rates. I don’t know what the solution to the issue is but it’s certainly not to tell people don’t have kids.

How many of these do you think there are? There’s a teacher shortage and we’re going to split them up more?

A lot of "moms" pocket state and federal money meant for food and childcare. Then they give the kid a 1 ounce bag of Fun Yuns for breakfast and hit the casino.
And that won't change if we throw more money at them.

Kids are expensive
There is a childcare problem. It’s hard to find good and affordable childcare. It’s hard to get kids into a good daycare. I was lucky my kids got into a really good daycare, because we got a big discount through my wife’s employer. Both my kids could read and had good math skills before kindergarten. Most home and church daycare’s don’t teach kids how to read.
It’s not just cost it’s the quality
Boys and Girls club is $20 to $25 a day for 2 hours after school. If you have 3 kids that’s over $800 to $1,200 a month
10 years ago daycare was $2,000 a month for 2 kids with a discount from my wife’s employer. It was amazing when both kids started school and we didn’t have to pay for daycare.

Better, but still not good. Sounds like an opportunity for some of those needy parents to start a childcare business and kill two birds with one stone.

Have to pay
No you dont have to. How many kids you got, cause i have 2 littles and pay half that for stellar care.
Unless uour in NYC or LA where COL was also your choice to deal with and probably correlates to a higher income than what you would find elsewhere.
Again, these are all choices you dont HAVE to pay 3k a month for childcare. So make better choices.

Please tell me the alternative to paying to have care for my three kids all day while my wife and I work to pay for a normal life for my kids. Would love to hear your practical solution. We don’t belong to any expensive country clubs, subscription services, etc. don’t drive range rovers and shite. $900 a kid per month seems pretty par for the course these days. Just a casual $2,700. Totally normal
Edit: I see you’re comparing 2 kids to 3 here…and I said nearly $3,000, total is $2,700 a month. Again, I could put my kids in a cheap day care but what good is that? We require childcare and since our kids aren’t with their mom all day we want them educated simultaneously. Alternative would be mom stops working (lose income and great benefits) but also lose daycare cost, that puts pressure on household expenses and also puts a lot more risk on my job, so unless we want to move into a shack (housing for a family of 5 is astronomical now) then I don’t really see a suitable alternative.

Her job provides valuable income and incredible benefits. Can’t imagine how a working single mom or dad might feel without even having the second income option.

You decided to have a kid and you have to pay out the arse for someone else to raise it. How does that make any sense?
Posted on 10/2/24 at 9:23 am to OchoDedos
Imagine if everyone who didn’t want to pay to care for their child stopped having kids. I think you’ve bought into the falsehood that we are overpopulated. We need children. It is not a zero sum game, you can be blessed with children and also burdened with exorbitant costs. Our family is fine, but many are not for reasons outside their control. My point herein was never that costs for rearing children should go away. My point is that of all the things government wastes money on, I wish they would put some into helping those less fortunate provide some early childhood care and education for their kids. Not every child born into poverty is a lost cause and the costs today are crazy for people trying to pull up by their boot straps. Also when I started having kids everything cost 25 to 50% less than it does now…

so basically we're saying that if you want careers as a man/woman, then don't have kids
we're also saying don't have kids if you can't afford them
if you can afford them, then live within your means, take no vacations, no new cars, no new houses
so we truly do want a childless society? only a select few should be having kids, and even they are elect not to...because the costs of caring for a child have skyrocketed.
so where is this declining birth rate going to improve if we're not allowing anyone to have kids?
let's just implement a one-child or none policy.

The Dems and incoming immigrants are going to make it your permanent problem. Wouldn't you rather have people with American values raising children? Some people can’t see the forest for the trees

shite, see ya later birth rate and the future of the USA.
This is mostly boomers who either:
A) lived in an economy when a husband could work and the wife would stay home with the kids (nearly impossible these days unless you're making 250k+) and they could still afford nice things
B) lived in an economy when childcare costs were $150 a month

One of the most poignant summations of this issue I have read. It's unfortunate, but well stated.
