I think a cane switch would probably be just as effective and would cause no damage. Just lightly switch the folks about the head and shoulders until they move.
I’d be willing to bet it wouldn’t take long.
I once saw a video of a protest where activists chained themselves around the axles of 18 wheeler trailers. It was all fun and games until the truckers started pulling off and dragging those folks. They were anxiously looking for people to cut them loose and immediately lost the courage of their convictions.

After 4 days of total blockage and an emergency order.
This also begs the question, if protesters block 5 lanes of a 6 lane highway is that cool? No need to run them over or bludgeon them with sledge hammers?
