From Heidi Scheirholz, Chief economist at the economic policy institute (also former Obama appointee)

"If the extended benefits mean some workers can take the time to find a job that’s a better match for their skills, and pays them a better wage, that’s a good thing, not a bad thing,” she said.

So take your time and find the job you want, the government will pay the bills in the meantime...got it. The greatest generation is rolling in their graves

From Lorne Zaman, who was employed in the film industry but has been without a job for over a year:

I really enjoyed what I did,” he said. “If the government is going to pay you to stay home, you’re going to do that unless that job you really want comes along.”

When your best skill is pulling the fry basket, you might be on the sidelines a while waiting for the straw job that pays better.

You mean the generation who was afforded the ability to subsist on minimum wage or close to it? The generation where someone could easily work a part-time job and go to college without coming out with crippling debt? The generation where wages were fairly commensurate with profitability?

I'm sure they actually wouldn't know what to do if they were thrust into the current climate.

Just food for thought, no pun intended.

No illegal immigration in Denmark. If you want wages to grow you need to start by closing the border. Make low wage employees more scarce by cutting off the supply of people who take low wage those jobs. Supply and demand will take over. Pretty simple.

So.....raising salaries IS a good thing after all?

I thought most (not all) posters here were saying it was a bad thing because prices will go up?

At least according to this, in Louisiana the maximum unemployment benefit is 247 dollars a week. Thats around 12,500 a hear. That's not exactly a big salary that people are getting from the government.

Corrected link.

so are you fine with the govt paying healthy, able people to stay home with your tax dollars?

Bruh, this is already happening due to MegaCorp USA paying starvation wages to their employees.

The taxpayers have been subsidizing profits for decades.

Why does this board continue to simp for Megacorps?

Ok.. are you in fact saying that you would like this country to mirror Denmark to raise wages?

If you fail to see lackeys getting 5 to 10 dollars an hour more to do the same job..... you will. In the restaurants... grocery stores... home improvement stores... etc.

Keep working harder serf. You'll be Jeff Bezos soon.

You are just not quite working hard enough.

A lot of people inherently want to see themselves as the boss/CEO, so they instinctually side with the corporations rather than the lowly employees (even though they are closer to the latter than the former). The same ones simp for billionaires as well.

How do you define that? No country can mirror another really. And I am not saying things should be exactly identical.

The income tax in Denmark ranges from 65% to 55%. That's right, the LOW END is 55%.

Isn't it interesting? $21.00 per hour x .45 (55% tax) = $9.45 per hour. And most of the US workers making $9.45 per hour pay no federal tax at all.

It's not just that they are paying them to do nothing. They are REQUIRING them to do nothing in order to get the free money. If you get a job, the free money goes away.

If these programs weren't run through the state unemployment programs, the governments could have been supplementing income instead of replacing income. Although, I'm not convinced that this wasn't a part of the their plan the entire time.

Bingo; this board is flooded with temporarily embarrassed millionaires that are all to happy to do the bidding for the billionaire and megacorp class while stomping on those perceived lower than them.

The billionaires get away scot free and continue siphoning off more and more from the middle and lower classes.

There is a difference between wages rising in a free market and big government dictating them. One of them would be a disaster. I think you know which one that is.

It’s worked damn well for me. But it’s does require a bit of intelligence mixed in. I guess that may be your problem.

Yet you subsidize them. Who built your phone? Who built your car? Who built your computer and it’s O/S? Your shoes? TV? What about your social media sites?

Yet you complain.
