Another reason to do away with income tax and associated deductions. I think the tax free status has kept the church from speaking truth to power in some instances.

How 'bout No. Just stop the grant money instead. Simple solution. Done and done
That way the govt doesnt get to control church theology thru outrageous taxation. Plus, you get the added benefit of lowering the US budget
2 birds, 1 stone

“Truth to power”…I hate that phrase so much.
Nothing against you.
The church IS the power to some extent. So I don’t buy that take.
The church like most other institutions has been infiltrated with Marxist. It was a long game they played and they secured what they needed in media, military, education, government and church.

Churches have become nothing more than money factories for false prophets. People that skew the Bible to push a narrative to enrich themselves. Bunch of fricking hypocrites.

Somewhat semantics, guess, but I agree with the gist of what you’re saying. I do agree that a lot of the hierarchy of most mainstream denominations has been compromised.

That’s just a start. Sounds like a good RICO action. That church is a criminal enterprise conspiring and working in concert to violate US law.

But imagine the added benefit of stopping the grant money AND taxing them like all the rest of us

Or those pretending to be churches.

Your net is far too broad.

No thanks. It's simply time to stop giving them government funding.
Posted on 2/1/25 at 12:12 pm to prplngldtigr
Their tax status isn’t the problem, funneling money to the church is a problem. Cut the funding plain and simple.

I disagree. Taxation is the camel's nose under the tent to forcing behavior.
Instead what we need is to classify that no government funds go to any religious institution which participates in certain things (like facilitating criminality).

Meh. Go after that church. Taxing churches is clearly unconstitutional.

Not saying that you're wrong but what part of the Constitution are you basing that on?

I would offer a homestead style exemption to protect small churches but the big, rich churches should absolutely be paying taxes.
this is the way
one of the wealthiest guys i ever knew was a preacher at a mega church. he was our neighbor at kiawah for years. kept his ferrari, harley and some 1920's convertible jalopy there year round

Even more reason to not put money in the basket

Episcopalians had fully replaced Christ with secular progressivism about 20 years ago. If there are any current or former Episcopalians on the board, you know it's true.
The national governing body of the Episcopal Church should not only be made to repay the $53,000,000 to the Trump federal government, but they should also be charged with tens of thousands (if not millions) of blatant violations of 8 U.S.C. § 1324.
I don't believe it's time to pull tax exemptions from ALL churches, because there are still plenty of churches that do things right and stick to teaching The Word. But these churches that take government money to break the law by taking advantage of protected legal status, should be held accountable at the highest levels.
I go to an Episcopal Church. Each church has the ability to make their own decisions as a congregation about doctrine and biblical interpretation. My church is fairly conservative, is very clear that homosexuality is a sin and does not sponsor nor condone gay marriage. If you go about 15 minutes down the road, theres an Episcopal church that literally flies rainbow flags out front. The larger Episcopal church along with the Anglican church are completely messed up and I do believe many of those people are going to hell.
I'm choosing to support my church and continue to donate and attend as a way to resist what has happened to the denomination. I see us as an outpost that is holding out against Satan and I am not ready to abandon them. However, the moment that changes we are out of there in a hurry. It's my hope that God sees why I continue to worship him there, and I try my best to follow his word.

No.
But get rid of abusers.
Helping people should be tax free or you just get more wasteful gov helping people.

Agreed 100 percent. The option should be fire and shut down any ngo related to the church that is encouraging illegal behavior or face being non tax exempt. I say this as someone that goes to mass every week. I always refuse to just hand over money to the church, I will put my money to special projects like a roof or whatever but not to a general fund that could go to support items I disagree with.
My dad fills the priest’s car up weekly bc he refuses to give money to the church.
