He has a really good point, imo although obviously it is too "nuanced" for Ben Affleck to understand. To him, and many others, it's ignorant to generalize all Muslims this way. To Maher, and myself, Muslims have done a shitty job of showing that they are for civil rights and freedom. In fact, it appears the majority of them don't when you take into account the people they elect abroad.

Yeah, disappointing display from Ben as he seemed like he showed up to participate and he is actually quite articulate (just saying stupid things).

All I know is Sam Harris will own anyone he ever goes up against. He might be the most impressive mind in America today.

Affleck is dumber than fence post and should never leave the acting stage where he can pretend to be a person that has a clue.

I kinda like him. I think he's intelligent and his heart is in the right place, but he's just flat out wrong here

after this thread i went to look up his political views and he's not as leftist as i imagined (b/c he grew up with damon or similar to him or w/e)

he's pro-gun and complimented bush, even

but yeah he's 100% wrong here and used the liberal trick of throwing out the R-word to "win" (by silencing discussion)

Articulate does not equal intelligent. Affleck supports gun rights b/c he owns one. Interesting how he/most liberals support causes that directly benefit them while being incapable of seeing the common sense factual argument in regards to other issues.

He comes across as intelligent, and actually wasn't directly rebutted in the fray. The obvious rebuttal is founded in an absent response of the supposed vast majority of "good" Muslims to atrocities committed by their cohorts.

The point is that most Muslims believe in oppressing women and death to anyone that leaves Islam.

yeah seriously

it's much better to have this particular discussion by excluding the atrocities and radicals

we can talk about those people and moderates ignoring them in other discussions more directly related to atrocities

if you support women's rights and homosexual rights, you oppose islam. if you want to argue that point, show me the islamic nations and/or states where women's/gay rights exist in any meaningful way

"thaths justh a mean thing to thay"

is what I heard, you consider that to be "articulate"?

Feel kinda sorry for Sam Harris to have to share a stage with lib hack and a moron sitting across from him. Affleck is a tard show.

Imo, the single biggest hypocrisy regarding Muslim human rights violations in the name of their stupid religion is the relative silence from feminists and women's groups concerning the extreme mistreatment of women in the Islamic world.

I mean, they will uniformly accuse Christians and other conservatives of waging a non-existent war on women over the matter of who should pick up the tab for birth control.

But when it comes to actual atrocities committed in the name of Islam, like mercy killings, denying females the right to educational opportunities, female castration, denying women the right to vote or even to drive, etc? #CRICKETS

The lesson to be learned from that? Once a group has been defined as politically correct, it is taboo for liberals to criticize them.

Where's Hillary ever been on any of this?

I've seen that on this board repeatedly. American white evangelicals are blamed by some for the laws of some African nations against homosexuality, as if a few televangelists with passports was all it took to turn Africans anti-gay.

Ben Affleck is one of those Hollywood liberals who thinks he's brillant when he's actually an idiot.

the US has 3 million Muslims, about 1% of the population. So, what does that mean for America's future? Should they be coaxed to switch religion, apologize, or become atheists?

Let us move to the “but 1.5 billion people are not violent” claim. Let me draw an analogy. Most men have never committed a rape nor will they ever commit such a reprehensible and evil act. Yet most rapists are men. Rape is a very serious issue that requires that we understand its root causes even though it is a very small minority of men who should be of concern to us. That we can all point to men who do not rape does not suggest that we should not worry about this phenomenon. Pointing to the empirical fact that rape is a largely male crime is not hateful, sexist, bigoted, or man-phobic. It is a manifestation of the fact that clear-thinking people can extract statistical regularities from the world and arrive to otherwise valid conclusions.

the ugly analogy of rape and Muslims. The Muslim world is in a state of political turmoil, especially against the West, so there's the headline grabbing. Only when white people are killed does the problem become important. If Africans kill each other, but are not Muslim, not really a problem.

the public wasn't overly concered with Darfur. Maybe a few people but that never got the attention of the masses. When white people are killed, that's important.
Rare cases such as Boko Haram taking 300 girls also grab headline, but those are few.
