NFL mainly comes on network TV. Cable cutting doesn't really affect that. If a cord cutter wants to watch the NFL they will through an antenna or they will purchase an NFL streaming package. Cord cutting is a lazy excuse for the NFL's ratings decline.

The cord cutting is people moving out of state and buying Sunday ticket, etc...which has went down as well. I'm one of them, although not technically a cord cutter because of MLB. I just use r/nflstreams to watch my NFL games

Is just as easy to stream local channels and the nfl network like premium channels. I haven’t had cable in 4 years and watch every week

This is purely anecdotal, but literally everyone I know has soured on the NFL. If you take out Saints games, my friends and family rarely, if ever, watch another NFL game. I find myself having waning interest in other games. I used to watch pretty much any football game on TV, now I could care less about the Monday night matchup.

The kneeling shite is stupid, but I have been gravitating away from the NFL since the bountygate and pussy rules shite.

As other posters have said, I was amazed at how productive my weekends got when I was no longer watching football all day Sunday.

It's probably an aging thing. Well, for me it is. I have two young children, so watchign one football game on Saturday and Sunday is kind of my limit so I can do things with the family.

5 years ago I watched football all damn weekend, and would do the same now if I could

Except he really didn’t.

the amount of money the NFL distributed to teams grew from $7.8bn in 2016 to $8.1bn in 2017, meaning the league added to its estimated $14bn in overall revenue. This was a 5% increase and far from the great economic rot referenced by Trump.

I quit long before this kneeling shite, at some point watching people who's marketable skill is essentially the ability to play a game get overpaid all the while bitching about everything just gets old. My God, NO organization in the history of the world has created more black wealth than the NFL and we actually have black players calling it slavery. Good grief.

Odd that you just glossed over the entire reason for that medias research effort. People don't tend to invest time, energy, money and manpower into something they are not concerned about, imho. Obviously sports media thinks the dropping numbers are a sign of things to come

I mean this game was down 8% from the kickoff last year, which was down 13% from the 2016 game, and that opener had less viewers than the '15 kickoff game.

In other words, since the kneeling started, the NFL has lost 1 of 4 viewers. Brilliant strategy. Nike, too. Not only did the stock fall, but they have less eyes on their TV ads, going forward

I pretty much watch any NFL game if it’s on but I opted for the Rally last night and never turned the game on

Rain Delay+Thursday Night. The game didn't even kickoff until after 9... on a thursday. I'm a big NFL fan and turned it off to go to bed in the 3rd.

It's hilarious

"I'm so alpha I'd rather gush over a guy talking about the same thing he talks about every night on my laptop than watch football"

We've come full circle

You realize that this started way before the kneeling, right. I’m sure the nfl lost some viewers during these protests, but far from a significant amount. The nfl also took in a record amount of revenue last season, so they aren’t really hurting at all.

The game was awful. So many penalties it was just obnoxious.

The NFL is just not doing well to attract fans, regardless of the kneeling bs.
