This shouldn't be controversial but we would best be served with Russia as our friend instead of our enemy. Not to mention with each passing year from a cultural standpoint Russia seems to espouse values more akin to traditional American values than those in the EU, but most importantly we must separate Russia as an ally to China who is the true existential threat.

That theory is wrong
After WWII started and before Russia was attacked by Germany Russia invaded Finland. The war lasted 3 months. Russia had around 350,000 causalities and Finland had 70,000. Finland had less than 26,000 dead and Russia had 150,000 dead.
Peace lasted about a year before it started backup and then Germany attacked Russia because they looked weak.
We were never going to help Russia against Finland. If anything we would have gave Finland military aid. We were probably helping Finland until Germany attacked Russia. Finland was embarrassing Russia kinda of like how the Ukraine is embarrassing Russia now.
