Why did Trump negotiate the new NAFTA if it just allowed Canada to take advantage of us?
They were supposed to abide by the trade agreement which they have not followed. Trump is just smacking that arse to get them back in order. Will be short term pain. They completely depend on trade with the US. trade. We on the other hand do not need their trade.

We’re isolating ourselves more and more with each passing day. Other countries will ban against us. Our standard of living will go down and we’ll have exhausted all our goodwill. MAGA is a losing concept especially with this leadership. There’s no planning. The world is more interdependent than ever and we’re going in the wrong direction.
All of this defies common sense. If there’s anyone the US is maybe interdependent with is China and that’s just for cheap crap and iPhones.
Canada is absolutely dependent on us. They’re basically like a 11 year old child that we have to feed and give an allowance to.

They have a new PM coming in. Being new to the position, he's likely to feel like he needs to prove himself by standing up to Trump longer than he would if he had been in the seat for a few years already.
I figure the current tariffs will need to be felt by Canada's consumers before the new PM blinks.

Still do t see the issue with reciprocal tariffs.
Canada COULD utilize ZERO PERCENT tariffs and we would happily return the favor.

Canada will trade more with China is my prediction.

OH NO!
I would hate to isolate ourselves from parasitic entities!

Just do what we do and include a condition that pricing does not include material escalation beyond a certain number of days. Then also exclude material escalation.

Until after the election. Neither candidate wants to be first to give in.

Guess they need to start moving those people up north off Canadian power on the the American electrical grid now so they don't get cut off.
They won’t get cutoff.
The utility negotiated with those Canadian generation facilities to purchase power because they managed a lower rate. There are US facilities available that will seamlessly pick up the load (at a slightly higher cost) if the dumbasses up north slit their own throats.

Having to add contingencies for tariffs and our negotiated projects have owner controlled contingency for tariffs.

Still makes no sense because 100% of the WH messaging about Canadian tariffs were about fent and immigration, not the industry-specific tariffs Trump is now tweeting about.
America is my country and Trump is my President so I don't really care that much how it started so long as we win, but I do think it's entirely possible this Canada fight is going to be a complete waste of time with little benefit to us (and perhaps net loss). Which is just part of what you're going to get with Trump.

We are about all they have, their country would be shite without US support and protection.

Who came up with the current trade deal with Canada?
Posted on 3/11/25 at 11:39 am to NashvilleTider
Do not want them as a state! (I fully realize Trump is blustering with no intention of doing it. But some of the hare-brained followers may actually believe it) They would add just another socialist/liberal state to the Electoral College and House of Representatives.

What are they not following in the trade agreement? I have not seen one allegation that they have broken the terms of the new NAFTA.
