This concerns the mobile app:
On the "Following" tab there is a drop down box, click it and you will see two options (Most Recent and Popular). It looks like when that was added it defaults selected "Popular". Switch it to "Most Recent" and you should be good.

I bet I get it anyway. I didn't see anywhere where I could stop an auto update. It hasn't so far, though, but I've gotten past updates with the country of origin and all.
