I guess Ukraine should be concerned about those billions that has been promised to them.

Not too concerned about Ukraine but every American should be concerned about Germany as their economy affects the global economy.

The German's don't have a lot going for them. They can build stuff. They are smart people, I'll give them that. But they have no natural resources, no means for energy production like nuclear and are governed by climate change enthusiasts. They are now at a point where their desires as a liberal social democracy are butting heads with Trump Time.

From your link:

Global tariffs are set to exacerbate the existing symptoms of what Nagel described as Germany’s “stagnating economy,” which has contracted for two consecutive years amid the combined aftershocks of the Covid-19 pandemic

That is the definition of a long-term recession. They have been in recession for 1.5 years. What happens when they run out of money to feed all of the dog people they brought over from the sandbox?

Germany is already in a recession as their economy shrank in both 2023 and 2024.

But think of how much they are doing for humanity by enforcing their green initiatives that have tanked their economy.

If there is one thing Germany is known for, it's how much they value human life.

Crony capitalism. Gotta protect those donor industries.

Every government tries to protect their domestic industries. Why? Because they know that industrial capacity is important. Less reliance on foreigners is important. Jobs for citizens are important. Lower government budget deficits are important. Producing as much as you consume is important. The US has been an outlier to that principle for decades, but it can't continue forever. Our budget and trade deficits are a threat to ourselves.

Ideally we wouldn't need tariffs, but we've grown addicted to foreign production. That dependence on foreigners is a threat to the country. Good news is it will eventually be broken, whether by tariffs, a declining dollar, a war or some other form of upheaval that wreaks havoc on our ability to borrow and consume.

Trade wars are a very poor way to do that in the modern economy.

“This is not a good policy,” Nagel said, bemoaning the “tectonic changes” now facing the world at large. “I hope that there is understanding within the Trump administration that the price that has to be paid is the highest on the side of the Americans.”

We apparently haven't found any other way to do it. Mainly because breaking the addiction to debt fueled consumption will be painful and voters don't like pain. I'd love to hear the alternatives though, can even suggest a few.

1. Slash govt spending, domestic and foreign directed
2. Quit paying for foreign wars unless absolutely necessary.
3. Slash bureaucratic overhead for corporations and small businesses.
4. Increase tax incentives for earned income.
5. Stop taxing corporate dividends; it's double taxation.
6. Encourage responsible bank lending as opposed to govt risk sharing.
7. In other words, make it more profitable for companies and individuals to invest and produce more stuff at home and import less from elsewhere.

Seems like there is an easy way for the Krauts to minimize the possibility of said recession......

I hope all countries that has put Muslim migrants and immigrants in front of their citizens like Germany France UK Italy etc, I hope they are all economically destroyed right before the native born citizens become the minority and lose their countries to Muslims and sharia law is installed.

Then tell them to get rid of their tariffs, it really is that simple.
