Think about this for a minute. You can ship roughly 3,000,000 plastic grocery bags on a single truck to a given customer. You can only fit roughly 260,000 paper bags on that same truck.

Therefore you need 11 1/2 trucks of paper bags for every truck of plastic bags.

For reference, a grocery chain of 50 stores will use 1 Truckload of plastic bags each week.

Does this sound like an environmentally friendly solution to you?

So Californians are being taxed to create more plastic waste.

But the taxes are still being collected.. so mission accomplished!

Which is the number one reason all government, nationwide, sucks. Politicians are worse than useless, they're a liability. Their moronic decisions end up hurting everyone and helping no one except those that are positioned to profit. Something has to change.

Should have stayed with paper bags.

I liked paper bags because it was fun using geometry to fill them with different shaped items and make them fit perfectly.

Some of my neighbors reuse the plastic bags for poop when walking the dog.

Wasn’t an unspoken reason why they were discouraged was that some groups were using those paper bags as “tests”?

Hint - It wasn’t white people doing it.

IDK, I thought it was to save the trees. There was also a movement to stop Starbucks from having wooden stir sticks in order to save the trees. But if you look at the package they come in you'll see they're all made in China.

Officially, it was to save trees.

Unofficially, there had been pressure to change how paper bags had been made and used for years because some groups would hold one up to a prospective member as a test.

If you were darker than the bag, you didn’t get in.

Hence why they stopped bleaching the bags.

Plastic bags are never single use. Everyone one I receive from a store always gets used as a trash bag in some form or fashion.

Same. Either a trash bag or for dog shite.

Was in a restaurant yesterday that used to have paper straws. Yes, paper straws.

Anywho, the alphabet person who served us was a 20 something yr old with black nails and what appeared to be hand-me-downs from his older brother.

So although I already knew the answer, I wanted him to squirm a bit so I asked him "Ahhh man, I'm so bummed you guys went back to plastic straws. Do you guys hate the environment now?" He didn't know what to say.

I like all the biodegradable plastic packaging that companies who use to charge a higher price because their products are packaged in a enviro friendly carton.

Problem is, they are only biodegradable if they are exposed to sunlight until they degrade, putting them 20 feet under in a landfill they just become another piece of ordinary plastic.

Yeah, and another good thing about paper bags was that as long as you put the heavier items at the bottom it would never fall over and spill while driving. Groceries in plastic bags will fall out unless you tie the tops.

I've had more paper bags ripped from packing 1-2 items in them since the ban, so they're just wasting them anyway. So far I haven't been that idiot chasing stray items from a ripped bag across a parking lot.
