To make us refinance 9 trillion dollars in treasuries at the absolute highest rate possible to cost us a trillions over the long term
And if we tell them F off and default on all our loans from them and re-establish trade partners elsewhere with that debt…what are they going to do?
Also, people used to say that development and outsourcing would never leave India…now it’s moving to Eastern Europe and LATAM….
Took some time to build up the education in these countries to compete at a higher per hour cost, but we are there.
What is China going to do with the hundreds of billions they want in semiconductor chips, when we say all of that will run through Taiwan and South Korea because they are playing ball and eliminating tariffs

So to answer your question. They could probably endure a lot more than us.
Unfortunately I think this is true. We’re very spoiled in our comfort. A different people, but look at the Japanese in WWII and what it took them to quit.
Trump has the benefit of not needing to be reelected. China has the benefit of no elections at all.
Very interesting. As painful as it’s been to the portfolio, I hope he stays the course. Damn shame it got this way in the first place.

Maybe so but that doesn't happen overnight and in the meantime we'll all be paying higher prices.
"Well short term pain, long term gain"
Yeah well we might find out that the short term pain won't be so short.

They are thinking one of two things:
1. Release a more deadly biological weapon.
2. Assassination.

Trump is never going to back down. China is never going to back down. We’re in for a *very* long trade war and China is just getting started.
They’ve spent decades building up farms all over South America for the inevitable day relations with the US deteriorate and they need to find a new agricultural trade partner. And that day was today.
China came to the table prepared to fight. Trump came to the table with his thumb up his arse.

This is a legit concern. They can cut the legs out from under us with this strategy. It’s a proven success.
